We walk by faith and not by sight

"For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7

From birth we learn to navigate the world by what we see, by what we learn through experience and by what we are taught by our parents, teachers, pastors, and so forth. Without sight we are limited in our ability to move about freely without the aid of someone else or something else.

So, sight is important, obviously. But, as Christians we are given an extra gift of “sight” called faith, that allows us to see beyond the limits of our physical eyes into a place where we can act based on what we know, not just on what we can see.

Consider the pilot flying at night in pitch darkness or through thick fog or dense clouds. He cannot look out the window for any reference point to follow. He must depend on the instrument readings in front of him. He must trust that they are accurate, and he must follow them precisely in order to reach his destination safely.

As we walk in the world by faith and not by sight, we also have instrument readings before us to tell us where we are and to point us in the direction we need to go, to get to the place God wants us to be. That is the Word of God. That is our guiding indicator

pointing us in the way of the Lord and giving us specific, dependable, and trustworthy steps to take to walk by faith and not by sight.
