Lent – Day 39 – Trust In The Lord, Have Faith In God

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; trust in the LORD forever…” Proverbs 3:4-5

“So Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Have faith in God.’” Mark 11:22

Trust in the Lord and have faith in God are essentially one and the same. Faith without trust is fear in counterfeit. Trust without faith nullifies it. In other words if you have one you must have the other for either to function.

We trust in the Lord because we believe His word. We have faith in His Word because He is God and He cannot lie. [Titus 1:2] Because we put our trust in Him our faith has an anchor that will securely hold us in the midst of the fiercest storm of test or trial, doubt or fear.

Our faith in Him has the substance of the knowledge of His Word. In His Word we see His proven character and in our lives we can identify times and times again when He has kept His Word and done exactly what we expected of Him and even more because His Word is one with His person.

Just as God will not be separated from His Word, His Promises or His Covenants, He cannot be separated from His nature of Love. His Word is the expression of His Love. Jesus is the incarnation of the WORD of God and the fullest expression of His Love.

When our faith and trust are anchored in God, He will not fail us nor will we be found wanting when our hope is in the fulfillment of His covenants of promise. When we base our lives, our words, our actions, our choices, our decisions, our provisions, our expectations of life on a daily basis and our futures are rested in Him, He will empower us to stand firm in our trust and faith and He will reward us.

The key is knowing His Word, confessing His Word, confessing His promises over ourselves, over our loved ones and in life situations to cause them to conform to His will. Finally, we must keep (obey) His commandments. I don’t mean that God requires us to keep a complicated set of rules and regulations, but He does require us to live by faith in Him.

Three commandments are the sum of them all. Love God, love your neighbor, and Jesus adds, love one another in the body of Christ as HE has loved us. That’s it!

If we endeavor to keep these three all the others will take care of themselves. They will be an outworking by product of keeping these three, loving God, loving our neighbor and loving one another.

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6

Faith in Him means believing all that He has said. Trusting Him is acting on what we believe about Him and what He has said. When we put our trust and faith in God, “mountains” will move as we speak to them. Mountains of anything that stand between us and God’s intended, promised purpose and plan for our lives. Mountains, of sickness, of debt, of fear, or despair and hopelessness, of sin and failure, all these and any others will move when our words of faith rooted and grounded in the love of God are spoken with absolute trust in the One who spoke those words over us. [See Deuteronomy 28 1:14]

“So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, “Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Mark 11:22-24
