A Reminder And Word of Encouragement
You’re Gonna Make It! Hang In There!
“So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.” Isaiah 59:19
I think mothers in general and those with toddlers in particular know this better than most of the rest of us. But, we’ve all experienced times when it seems everything is pulling on us and pressing in on us at the same time. We find ourselves trying to juggle a dozen things at once and still give attention to the sudden and unexpected stuff that comes in like a flood…the good, the bad; the things that just drain our energy and leave us spent.
It can be pretty harried. When our days go like this from one to the next we can eventually wear down, wear out, and given enough time we can be tempted to resort to self-destructive behavior in an attempt to ease our pain.
In those times our natural human instinct is to just throw in the towel and quit. We feel helpless, overwhelmed and incapable of making things work the way they “should.” As hard as we try to avoid it, we feel there is an inevitable press toward falling over a cliff where we lose everything.
If that’s where you are, I have good news for you. Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever. He will never leave you or forsake you and you can "be of good cheer" now, right in the middle of your muddle, because Jesus has overcome the world. He has died for you and me and He lives now, forever standing before the Father making intercession for you and me. What can you do to realize this "good cheer" and find peace in the midst of the storms of life?
Here are just a few things He has given us to over come the world.
You can open your mouth and begin to declare the truth. I’ve changed the pronouns to make these our confessions of faith.
“No weapon formed against (me) shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against (me) in judgment (I) shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and (my) righteousness is from (God, my Father),” says the LORD.” Isaiah 54:17
“For He shall give His angels charge over (me), to keep (me) in all (my) ways.” Psalm. 91:11
“Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for (me) who will inherit salvation?” Hebrews 1:14
“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32
So we, say, “I do not fear because it is my Father’s good pleasure to give me the kingdom.”
“No evil shall befall (me), Nor shall any plague come near (my) dwelling.” Psa. 91:10
Right in the middle of the mess God will enthrone Himself on our praises. As you meditate on these things a peace will begin to flow from within until it dispels all the anxiety and stresses of your day and makes you better able to manage them or avoid them altogether.
God’s desire is that we should have peace all around us, and joy all the time, regardless of the momentary, changing circumstances. When stresses and fears come in we have a way of escape them. That way is The Word of God. Jesus said He would never leave us or forsake us. If we have His Word we have Him.
When we speak the Word we release His Spirit in our situations and the Word is the force that changes us, then changes the circumstances around us, line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little.
“For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little.” For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people, to whom He said, “This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest,” And, “This is the refreshing”; Yet they would not hear.” Isaiah 28:10-12
God wants us to live in righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. That is the Kingdom of God. That’s the fruit we are empowered to bear.
“…for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17
Rest and refreshing – this is God’s intent for us, to know and declare His Word. Be at rest and be refreshed by confidence in His Word today.
