In the Beginning God — Part 1
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
If there is any passage of Scriptures known to almost every person that has ever read the Bible this is it.
In these 10 words are the sum of all creation. To understand the beginning of all creation is to understand that God created it. Then, some modern day philosophe will ask, “Then, who created God?” The answer is simple and at the same time beyond human comprehension. It is simple enough for a child to understand but complex enough to boggle the mind of the most genius of scholars and crash the greatest computers that could ever be built by man.
The answer to who created God is...God is.
God is and always is. He has never not been. There is no point in time or eternity when God was not. Therefore, He has no creator. There is nothing before Him. He is first and the supreme existence over all that is. All that is exists because He created it. The heavens and the earth had a beginning and will have an end according to the Scriptures. There will come a new Heaven and a new Earth. But God is eternal.
Now Consider this. There is something that is, indeed, Someone, Who is as eternal as God and has existed with Him for all eternity and is Himself God. That something/Someone is The Word, which indeed is the second eternal person of the Trinity, Jesus the Word that was made flesh. Of Him the Scriptures declare:
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” Matthew 24:35
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” 2 Peter 3:10
Heaven and earth shall pass away but the WORD of God is forever. Jesus is the Word. And that Word was with God from the beginning and that Word was and is God forever.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
In beginning also the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. God the Creator, Jesus, the Word, and The Spirit of God were all present and actively engaged in the creation. After all things in the heavens and the Earth were created, stars and moons, planets and galaxies, water and earth, animals, birds, fish and all sea creatures, every living thing that moved on the Earth, God then said,
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26
Now of all things that God made He said, “it was good,” but after He created man, male and female, He said of all creation that it was “very good.”
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” Genesis 1:31
All was good in creation before man was created but after man was created in the image and likeness of God all creation became “very good.”
God’s crowning of creation was and is man.
To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David.
“O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!
Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen—even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:1-9
In this present culture where some have bought into the lie of the evil one that man is the evil corruptor of the planet and that he is responsible for all the evil perpetrated on the earth and that America as a nation is particularly bad among all the nations, it is striking to hear the Word of God so resoundingly dispute their claims declaring that man is the pinnacle of God’s work of creation.
Without question man has fallen from His original place of perfection to a place of lowly servitude to work and labor for his food and clothing and shelter, but there is only one who is ultimately responsible for the state of death and corruption on earth to this day and he is not man. Moreover, he is certainly not God.
In truth, through God the Word, the Son of God, man has been and is being restored to his former place of creation in the image and likeness of God.
Where men (all humankind) are concerned, male and female in Christ, our destiny is glorious indeed.
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” 1 John 3:2
