Faith For What? – Part 3

FAITH BY…

Our faith in God, our trust in His Word is based on the immutable evidence of Jesus Christ that He is the Son of God and that God has raised Him from the dead. Now, no one living today (that we know of) was physically present to witness Jesus’ earthly life, teaching, suffering, death, burial and resurrection.

But we have the eyewitness accounts from numerous eyewitnesses of His glory, chief among them being the Apostles, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. On the basis of their testimony recorded in the New Testament, and the work of the Holy Spirit to draw us to The Father, God, we believe that Jesus is Lord and we confess with our mouths that God has raised Him from the dead and by that belief and confession we are miraculously saved.

Our belief, our faith rests on three things, primarily;

1) that the Gospels (the testimony of the Apostles) are true and the Words of Jesus are the Truth,

2) that indeed Jesus, Himself is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and that He is the only pathway to God, and

3) the Blood of Jesus Christ, having paid the debt of sin for all time for all mankind, is the unfailing proof that our salvation is real and certain now and throughout eternity.

Through His blood we have been made the righteousness of God in Him. Therefore, we are the just, having been freely justified by His grace and faith in Him.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…” Romans 5:1

“…that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Titus 3:7

We the just and our lives are lifted up from death unto life now and we have peace with God and a new identity, indeed, a new nature in Christ, having been born as we are now not by corruptible seed but by incorruptible by the will of God. We are the seed of God through Jesus Christ and the covenant seed of Abraham by the blood of Jesus Christ. Let me say that another way. The same DNA that Jesus has is the same DNA we now have in our reborn spirit.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

So, now as the Just, as New Creations in Christ we order and conduct our lives by faith in the Word of God, faith in the leading of the Holy Spirit and faith in God’s daily provision and blessing. We put no trust in the works of our hands or the works and ways of men. We trust in God and Him alone for life and we live that life by faith.

“Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faith.” Habakkuk 2:4

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…” Romans 5:1

Our living is a matter of choices everyday, whether we will have faith in God and His Word or if we will be led by those who oppose Him. Helping us in those decisions is the Holy Spirit working in us both to will and to do of God’s good pleasure.

“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13

The challenge for all of us is to resist and overcome the nature of our flesh, which wars against our reborn spirit. We wrestle not with flesh and blood [Ephesians 6:12] in the sense of relationships with other people. But are at war within ourselves [1Peter 2:11; Galatians 5:17] until we grow up and mature in our faith [1 Peter 4:1; Hebrews 5:14] and our trust in God’s Word as the final and desired authority in our lives.

The war inside each of us abates and becomes little more than a benign nuisance as we grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ becoming daily more doers of the Word than hearers only. The temptations of the enemy have no place in us and his power over us is broken in Jesus Christ. The closer we are to Him, the further we are from the tempter’s snare.

So, God helps us and strengthens us through His Word and the Holy Spirit to withstand the works of death and cleave to life in Jesus Christ, His life and that more abundantly.

Our faith the manner by which we live in God is our way of life, and that life is rich with fullness of blessing, grace, love, overflowing provision and peace.
