Your Kingdom On Earth…As In Heaven

When we pray these words in the Lord’s Prayer it is natural to think of the kingdom of God coming on earth at some future time, when Jesus returns to rule and reign on the earth and the devil and his angels will be cast into the pit and be bound for a thousand years. It does indirectly reference that day. But more than the future the context of prayer is directed to the times we live in now.

We pray for God’s kingdom rule to be established in the places where we live in the world that we know now.

It may seem however, that despite the many times this prayer has been prayed and is being prayed daily, that it is having little to no effect on the world, the culture and the spirit of the times. We seem to be living in an evermore increasingly ungodly country and world.

The idea of America is One Nation Under the rulership of God is being challenged daily and it appears that ground is being lost to the atheist, anti-Judea Christian, secularist humanist who believe that they are the masters of the world to do and live as they place in all manner of wantonness and degeneracy and to indoctrinate the young into their destructive world view.

But this present world was prophesied in times past to be just as it is now.

The Apostle Paul to Timothy,

“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” 2 Timothy 3:1-5

Does this not accurately describe the times we’re living in? And it is all the more reason we need to pray that God’s kingdom will come and His will done on earth as it is in Heaven. We know and believe that things are not as they should be, but we must not resign ourselves fatalistically to just throw in the towel and stop preaching, stop, stop teaching, stop witnessing boldly of Jesus Christ because His message is rejected by a few.

No, This is what the enemy is hoping we will do and sadly too many are succumbing to his lies. But we must not become like them. We have the greater One living in us; we have the greater power available to us. We have the sure Word of God to stand on and to proclaim boldly that the world will hear believe it and receive Jesus as Lord.

Motivated by the Love of God we can and we must pray earnestly for the salvation and transformation of those who oppose us. We must first look within ourselves and recognize our own failures and shortcomings, then pray and confess our sins that God will faithfully and justly forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Then, we must earnestly pray for the lost ones, for those whose ways and heart-passions are diametrically opposed to our Lord. Even among those who claim to be Christians but in works they deny Him. We must pray for them to be saved, for the Holy Spirit to convince and convict them of their need for the Savior.

We must pray for them to have a hunger and thirst for true righteousness. We must stand in the gap as intercessors for them that the evil one they are currently serving in ignorance will not be able to keep them held captive to his lies and deceptions.

We must pray that their eyes will be opened to see the truth of God and to renounce the ways of darkness and death and embrace life and that more abundantly in Jesus Christ.

We must pray. Not just give lip service to prayer, but pray, fast and pray, worship and pray for the lost.

Others in past generations prayed for us. Now it is our time to take up the banner, take up the full armor of God and do warfare in the Spirit that the kingdom of God will come on the earth and the will of God be done in the earth as it is in Heaven.

There is a Kingdom of God yet to come and a Kingdom of God that is with us now. Moreover the Kingdom of God is in us, because where the Spirit of God dwells there also is the Kingdom of God.

“…nor will they say, “See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21

The Kingdom of God is not about the acquisition of stuff or the pursuit of daily bread.

“for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17

This is the kingdom of God we pray to “be done in earth as it is in Heaven,” that the will of God will be done and that the name of Jesus will be glorified in the hearts of all mankind.

What we see now in the media and in the midst of this current political campaign season is repulsive to most of us. But these two presidential candidates in particular and those who have been elected to political office are no more than mirrors held up to America for her to see what she has become, and we don’t like what we see.

The question is what are we going to do about it? What can we do about it?

We can pray!

We can pray as those who believe that Jesus is Lord and greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world, pray as those who believe that no weapon that is formed against us will prosper, pray as those who believe that whatever we ask the Father in the name of Jesus He will give it us, pray as those who love our enemies and those who hate us, pray as those who recognize that Jesus died for all people, the righteous and the unrighteous. We can pray as those who believe we receive when we pray. We can pray as those who believe that with God all things are possible.

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4

I do not believe that formalized prayers are necessarily effective if just prayed by rote without adding faith and heart with them. But ,I do believe that any prayer prayed in faith daily will bring the kingdom of God to bear on behalf of those who pray earnestly.

So, I offer this prayer that we can pray now and pray daily as the Election Day approaches, and I believe if we do, we will see measurable changes in our lives in the candidates and in our nation in the days to come.

Prayer

In the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord, our Father and our God, Holy is Your name. Father, please let Your kingdom come, let Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Lord, we confess our sins our failures and our acts of ungodly behavior and we ask you to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness to fulfill Your promises to us. Now Lord we stand in the gap, interceding for those that are lost who have not believed You and even those that deny You.

Lord we particularly lift up those to You who are running for the Presidency of the USA. We pray for Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump that Your Spirit will penetrate their hearts with the truth, that they will turn from the wickedness of speech and of actions, that they will gain a heart of wisdom and seek to know truth that the truth will set them free. Most of all Lord we pray that they will confess with their mouths and believe in in their hearts that Jesus is Lord and You, Father have raised Him from the dead.

Lord we pray that they will have such a profound encounter with You that before the election we will see Your Spirit at work in their lives.

Now Lord in the name of Jesus we come against the spirit of vulgarity, of lies and deceptions of media manipulations and distortions of the truth to bind them and cast them out of this elections process, that every negative destructive scheme of every candidate will fail and that the truth and only the truth will be prevail.

Now Father, all these things we pray also for every person running for office in the House of Representatives and the Senate, in state and local elections and in judges and magistrates to our courts, that they too will be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth in the name of Jesus Christ. We pray for Supreme Court Justices and those who will be appointed to Court Supreme and district courts around the nation that they will be those of moral rightness and integrity, those who know You and seek after Your wisdom to follow in all their decisions.

Father, we pray that righteousness will prevail in the United States of America and that Your name will be lifted up among Your people that we will worship You in Spirit and in truth.

Thank You Father for hearing our prayer and granting our petitions now. In the name of Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord we pray. Amen
