A Meditation on Psalm 112 - Part 6

“He will not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.” Psa. 112:7

The Pathway

The Pathway to fearlessness and trust is Love, perfect love.

We all wish tough times just could be changed as easily as flipping a light switch or picking up what we need at the grocery store or ordering things on-line with the click of a mouse? Maybe you’d prefer just waving the old magic wand and, saying, “Shazam!” And instantly all is right with the world.

Well…we all know that’s not going to happen.

Life is a process. Faith is a process. Love is a process. Learning to live without fear is a process. But it doesn’t need to take a lifetime to start living in its benefits. The clearest and most direct pathway to it is child-like faith. If we know God, and we know He loves us, we can trust Him and we never need to be afraid. He will not leave us comfortless.

The pathway through things that threaten to make us fearful is knowing something greater than the threat.

“He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. His heart is established; He will not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.” Psalm 112:7-8

Fear is the result of an expectation of something we don’t want to happen. Just as faith is the expectation (substance) of things hoped for, fear is the substance (expectation) of things not desired.

But faith is not exactly the opposite of fear. There is an even more direct inverse of fear, a force that completely overwhelms it. Love. Perfect love casts out all fear!

The heart that is established in the Word of God responds from the innermost being with the words of life. Life and death are in the power of the tongue and out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. If fear and anxiety is in our hearts, when a work of the enemy comes we will speak what we have in reserve in our hearts, and with it we set the course of our lives.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “Sow a thought reap a confession, sow a confession reap an action, sow an action reap a habit, sow a habit reap a lifestyle, sow a lifestyle reap a destiny.” The destiny of the righteous who are filled daily with the Spirit, who put their hope in the Lord, reading, meditating, and confessing the Word over themselves, their loved ones, their circumstances, filling their hearts with the truth, will in the day of trouble call upon the Lord, confessing His Word and by the power of that Word speak life, without fear, to dispel evil tidings.

The Work of the Holy Spirit in us is to fill our hearts with the love of God. The love of God is the force of power by which our faith works. That Love is perfect and there is no fear in love.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18

So, love is exactly the opposite of fear.

How do we become perfect in love or how is love perfected in us? By keeping God’s Word. It’s the doing of the Word that perfects the love of God in us.

“But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.” 1 John 2:5

If we live by the Word we shall live in the Word. If we live by fear we will die in fear with torment.

The first commandment that heralded the advent of our Lord Jesus Christ was “Fear not!” “For behold I bring you good tidings of great joy.”

The message of Jesus to us is “Fear not!” He is still bringing good tidings of great joy.

“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32

Here’s the way the Amplified Bible puts it.

“[After all] the kingdom of God is not a matter of [getting the] food and drink [one likes], but instead it is righteousness (that state which makes a person acceptable to God) and [heart] peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17 AMP (Amplified Bible)
