These two words in Scripture carry with them a profound message. First the Word tells us that we have an Advocate who can feel the same emotions we feel, the same sorrows, the same disappointments, frustrations, angers, fears, wounds and offences we feel. Therefore, He can connect with us on the level of our emotions.
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15
The humanity of Jesus as our Advocate is the assurance that we are represented before the Father on the basis of our frail, broken and sinful humanity and the basis that we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus…” Romans 3:23-24
Jesus weeping is our indication that He truly is a man like all men. Yes, He is fully God but He is also fully a human being that we can contact just as we would our dearest and closest friend who knows our strengths and weaknesses and loves us despite our frailties. He is that friend that sticks closer than a brother. He is that loving friend who supports us, encourages us, lifts us up when we’re down, weeps with us when we sorrow and rejoices with us when we rejoice. He is that friend who walks with us through the tough times and picks us up when we fall down. He forgives us all our sins and heals all our diseases.
Jesus loves us. Trust Him. Call on Him. Seek Him. Worship Him. He knows us better than we know ourselves and He cares for us with all His heart. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Psalm 103:1-5
