Consider The Enormity Of God's Word
“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet…” Psalm 8:3-6 [See also: Job 26:1-14]
Consider what God has created and then think about the psalmist’s question, “What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?”
To really understand the enormous implications of this question it helps to get a perspective on the vastness of the universe that God has created and the relationship of that universe to us.
You and I live on planet earth and planet earth is a single planet in our solar system. Our solar system in the Milky Way Galaxy has the Sun at its center and at least a billion stars surrounding it.
Our Sun, the nearest star to planet earth, is 93 million miles away. That's why the Sun, which is a million times the size of the Earth, looks so small. It would take the Space Shuttle seven months to fly there.
Astronomers measure distances in space in light years, that is, the distance light travels in one year. Light travels at 186,000 miles per second or roughly 6 trillion miles in one year.
The nearest stars to Earth are in the Alpha Centauri triple-star system, about 4.37 light-years away. One of these stars, Proxima Centauri, is slightly closer, at 4.24 light-years.
You and I on planet earth are not visible from just a few miles above the earth, the average altitude of a commercial airplane. Now imagine how small we are compared to the earth and how small the earth is compared to other planets in our Solar System.
Now consider the size of the Sun in comparison to the earth.
It is a million times larger than the earth.
Can you imagine how small we are now?
And there is more… There are at least three known stars that dwarf our Sun.
But there is still more. Compared to the largest stars discovered so far, our Sun is no larger than a pixel by comparison, which makes the earth 1 millionth of a pixel and you and I are totally undetectable, not even the tiniest speck. (A pixel is one dot in an image on your computer, a letter, a picture, etc. A 12 pt. font contains 16 pixels)
God created all this and the WORD tell us that Jesus is holding all things together by the Word of His power.
“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high…” Hebrews 1:3
Ok. That’s fine and it is a comfort to know that God has established all things to stay in balance in the earth and amazingly in all the universe through Jesus Christ… but He has also invested in the heart of every believer a deposit of His vast creative power and authority.
“Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” Hebrews 1:14
God has given us angels to work on our behalf, to accomplish His will and purpose on the earth. We were not left here on earth after Jesus’ resurrection to just fend for ourselves until He returns. He sent to us a source of power, revelation and authority in the person of the Holy Spirit to teach us all things, to lead us and guide us into all truth, to empower us for the work of ministry and to transform us into the image of Christ.
Now, that power and authority is so much greater, so much more enormous and vast than we tend to think about on a daily basis. But it is here with us and available to us every minute of every day.
The key to all of it is this. God’s angels, our ministering spirits sent to us by God to minister for us only do so at the voice of His WORD.
“Bless the LORD, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word.” Psalm 103:20
Some years ago when I first heard teaching about faith confessions it seemed to be centered primarily around the acquisition of stuff, money, material goods, houses, cars, planes, and the like. Now there is nothing fundamentally wrong with acquiring things that are blessings from God. He wants us to enjoy the fruits of our labors and indeed all that He has created for His pleasure. But somehow the immensity of God’s higher purpose and calling got lost in the stuff and our image of God got reduced to a genie in a bottle that we could rub and make a wish and “poof!” whatever we wanted would miraculously appear.
Of course, it didn’t and many became discouraged, dejected and despondent because they didn’t see the result they expected and some even fell away from the faith or retreated into a posture of low expectation and helplessness to affect the circumstances of life. In that place God, for them, became no more than a religious pacifier that they employed until things just got better or they died holding on to an unfulfilled hope.
This was never and is not now God’s intended purpose for His Covenant people, the body of Christ. Jesus left the earth with the intention that we would do the works that He did and even greater works because He has gone to the Father.
The only real hindrance to accomplishing God’s purpose in our lives is our unbelief.
“And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Matthew 17:20
The same God, Who created the vastness of space and all the heavenly bodies that inhabit it is the same One Who came to earth as a man and died for your sins and mine and rose again on the third day to give us new life in Him; life that transcends the limits of human earthly powers.
Jesus gave us a direct link to the full, immeasurable, unlimited resources of creative power in Heaven, His Word. By His Word and faith in His Word, we can tap into the same power that created the earth, the Sun, the billions upon billions of stars and planets so vast in magnitude that they overwhelm the natural mind. In the presence of that realization you and I cannot even imagine anything that would be impossible for God.
In only two things God has limited Himself. He cannot lie and He cannot learn. He cannot lie because He is LOVE and when He speaks whatever He speaks IS what He intended it to be. He cannot learn because ALL knowledge belongs to Him.
“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37
All creation witnesses that with God nothing is impossible.
“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
“And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.” Mark 10:27
If the angels of God move at the voice of His Word then we who are heirs of salvation cause them to move when we give voice to the WORD of God.
We are the only body Jesus has in the earth today. If the voice of God’s WORD is going to be heard in the earth it is going to be from us. There is no other source. Angels move at His WORD. They do not speak the WORD to us. That is the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will not force our tongues to utter sound. Our words, the things we say, are completely our sovereign choice to make.
If, with God all things are possible, and they are, [Matthew 19:26; Mark 10:27] and God desires that we prosper and be in health even as our souls prosper, and He does, [3 John 2] then, we will realize that purpose in our lives only when we choose now and from now on to use the power of God’s WORD given to us at a precious price, the blood and love of Jesus Christ our Lord to accomplish His purpose and plan for our lives and His kingdom.
His Word spoken from our mouths by faith in our hearts as individuals and even more importantly corporately as His body in the world has the same force and power of authority that Jesus exhibited when He was on the earth.
What we say can change everything! There is nothing going on in the world today that the WORD of God’s power spoken by His church can’t change to glorify God. Nothing. No terrorist acts, nor radical movements of satanic influence, no sicknesses or diseases, no plagues of any kind can withstand the WORD of God voiced by God’s people.
Let’s make a decision today to begin now and continue to speak the WORD of God, His plan, His desire for us and for the world over ourselves and those we love and into every situation that is in opposition to God’s intended purpose that we would have life and that more abundantly and that all the works of the devil will be destroyed.
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10
We can change our world to the glory of God. AMEN!
