The Glory Of The Lord

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men! ‘” Luke 2:13-14

The multitude of the heavenly hosts said (sang), “Glory to God in the Highest…”

Glory describes the higher attributes and quality of a person or something, the sum of wealth, station, power, relationships, beauty, wisdom, ability, talent, assets, all that is the fullness of that thing or person’s existence.

There are levels and dimensions of glory. There is a glory of things in nature, a glory of man that is a reflection of God and a glory of things in the heavens, the manifestation of creation. But, the highest glory is the Glory of God. All that is contained in the person, nature, character, creation, splendor, majesty and radiance of God, His presence and His power, and all that surrounds Him both seen and unseen is His glory. God cannot be separated from His glory. It is one with Him.

There is also a glory that one can give to another. We can give glory to God and to men. We can even give glory to things by the transfer of our allegiance to them, our trust and our hope in them rather than to God, worshiping the creature rather than the Creator. This is sin and grievous to God.

All creation was exhorted that night to give Glory to God in the Highest. To give the sum of all that is in creation to honor and magnify God to the fullest extent of all our abilities, wisdom, strength, honor, resources, talents and voice to praise God Most High.

And God answers our praise with a declaration of “Peace on earth, good will to men.”

The more we extol His glory, the more we praise Him the greater the blessing of peace and goodwill is bestowed on us. The more and the higher the expression of our worship of Him the more transformed we become to be conformed to His image, to look like, to think like and to act like Him in all things. The highest glory we can give to God is to be like His Son our Lord Jesus Christ in all that we think, desire, do, and say.

“Glory to God in the highest and on earth,

Peace good will toward men.”
