A Multitude of The Heavenly Host – Praising God
“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:13-14
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” Psalm 19:1
On this Holy Night of Jesus’s birth the angels of Heaven, not a few, but a multitude, filled the skies rejoicing and worshiping God. Now a multitude by the measure of Heaven was a number too great to count. Were there thousands? millions? billions? No one knows. What we do know is their presence was dazzling with light and the sound that emanated from them was filled with praises to God and a declaration to the world!
“Glory to God in the Highest and on earth peace good will towards men.” Luke 2:14
I know there are those who argue for the benefits of moderation and economy to avoid excesses and extravagances particularly in those things that, though beneficial in some degree, would in excess harm, debilitate, or deter us from our appointed purpose. In those we must exercise restraint and employ them only sparingly as necessary. Food is good but over indulgence can be harmful to our health.
On the other hand when it comes to worshipping God, to honoring Him with all our hearts, our resources, our talents, our songs, our praises, our thanksgiving, our souls, minds and strengths, there can never be too much. We can never fill to the full the earth or the Heavens with worship sufficient to measure up to the glory of God. The Heavenly angels and archangels, the elders and Living Creatures have been resting not, day and night, from the beginning of creation, worshiping our Savior and Lord, the God of all Creation and they are not done yet nor will they ever be. They will always praise God without constraint or reservation and so should we.
A multitude is an innumerable company, more than could be numbered.
This Christmas let us begin an extravagant celebration of our Lord, Jesus Christ, spare no expense, hold nothing back, give extravagantly, worship Him unrestrainedly, praise Him unreservedly, share His love unrelentingly. Bless the Lord with the very best of the very best that you have and join with the multitude of the heavenly hosts praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace goodwill toward men!”
