When the Holy Spirit comes He will lead you into all truth
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
Often times in church or in hearing adult conversations as I was growing up, I would hear someone say something like this. “You never know what God is going to do. He is a great mystery, too awesome for human beings to understand. You know the Bible says…” then, they would quote 1 Corinthians 2:9. “Eye hath not seen and ear hath not heard what things God has prepared for those that love Him.” Then they would stop.
For a very long time I just accepted that there was no real way to know what God is doing or what He has in store for people who believe in Him whether individuals or churches. And amazingly there are many Christians today who believe that.
But, the very next verse in that passage of Scripture completely reverses verse nine. It even begins with the negative conjunction, “but.” Which, in this case, what follows it is the very core of the meaning of the message.
By physical sight and physical hearing alone, human eyes and ears have not seen nor heard what God is about to do or has done, and it does not just suddenly become a thought in the hearts of men as though it just occurred from some primordial spark in their brains. Human agency alone (the five physical senses and the rational mind apart from God) cannot get in touch with the Spirit of God.
No one can come to the Father except by Jesus. Jesus is God and God is Spirit.
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3:6
“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:14
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:44
Here is the meaning and the true message of this passage. It is true that eye hath not seen and ear hath not heard the things that God has prepared for those who love Him, because they are spiritually discerned.
BUT, verse ten declares, GOD HAS REVEALED THEM TO US BY HIS SPIRIT…!!! That cannot be overemphasized. What we can’t know by the seeing of our physical eyes or the hearing of our physical ears, we can know by what God has revealed to us by the Holy Spirit communicating with our reborn Spirit.
Here is verse 10.
“But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:10
We can know what God has prepared for us and God wants us to know what He has prepared for us. Our part is to seek His Word and listen to the voice of the Spirit of God in us. He will lead us, teach us and reveal to us all things.
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” John 16:13- 14
Are you in a quandary about God’s will for your life? Are you facing a decision that could be life altering at any dimension? Are you in need of wisdom? Do you have questions about yourself, or your relationships? Are you hungry for joy and peace, for righteousness and holiness? Do you want to be pleasing to God but find the way hard and fraught with temptations? Are you weary? Are you sick? Are you in trouble?
God has the perfect life restoring, life affirming, life giving answer for your every need. And you can know it and be changed by it through the power of the Holy Spirit, alive and active in you now if you are born again in Jesus Christ.
If you are not yet born again I invite you, I plead with you to hear the call of God in your heart and accept and receive His Word that says,
“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” John 3:5-7
Eye cannot see and ear cannot hear, but by the Spirit you can know the things of God. The pathway to knowing by the Spirit of God has been made easy and simple for anyone, for everyone, for whosoever will believe it and choose to walk in it.
Let’s simplify what it means to believe God for salvation, indeed for anything. Here’s a parable.
Two men come to you to tell you something amazing that can change your life for good or can change your life for evil. One is speaking the truth, the other is speaking a lie, but both claim to be speaking the truth.
The one says to you, this is the pathway that leads to life and good things. It’s narrow and sometimes it will be an uphill climb. The right to walk on this path was paid for you in full through the suffering, death, burial and resurrection of a Sinless Lamb, Who died for your sins to make a way for you to life eternal with God. It is free, but it will cost you something —the surrender of unprofitable things in your life and the abandonment of relationships that seek to destroy you, mostly it will cost the submission of your will to the will of the One, Who created the pathway for you. But you will never be left alone while you walk this path, and you will be provided all that you need to sustain and give meaning, fulfillment and purpose to your life while you stay on the path. At the end of the path there is an overabounding flow of blessing and freedom of communion with God the Creator, Father, Son and Holy Spirit in the endless ever-renewing majesty and glory of God in a timeless transcendent atmosphere of love, joy and true peace that passes all understanding.
The other man says to you, this is the way (pointing to an opposite path) to everything you have ever wanted, every pleasure you can imagine. It’s a broad and beautiful path and it won’t cast you anything to walk on this one. The path is wide and you will have endless options. You just take whatever you want and you can have your way with whomever you please. This way is the way to endless pleasures and fulfillment. You are accountable to no one but yourself. There will be no one to tell you what to do or to limit the fulfillment of your every human desire in any way. When you come to the end of this path there is an even bigger one with even more pleasures awaiting you. On this path you can indulge in any kind of lifestyle you choose, you can consume any kind of substance you wish and nothing bad will happen to you. You will just be more enlightened, you’ll be more relaxed and at peace with everyone and you will be more aware of things around you. Whatever you can imagine you will be free to do and pursue. There is no evil on this path. Everything is acceptable. People on this path get to be whatever they want to be. You can change everything about you on this path. There are no predetermined boundaries or limitations. Anything about yourself you don’t like, including the way God created you, whether male or female, you can change with no negative consequences. It’s all good. You create your own rules and God can’t touch you. Why, because there is no God on this path, so you’re the only god you have to recon with.
In both cases the choice is up to you. You must choose whose message you will believe. One way leads to life and the other leads to death.
“But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:8-13
There is no third combination option. (Deuteronomy 30:19-20) You can only choose one or the other.
The entrance to the pathway of Life and that more abundantly is through confession of faith in Jesus Christ. On this path God reveals by His Spirit the things that He has prepared for those who love Him.
The entrance to the pathway that leads to death is through believing the ways and wisdom of men apart from God and in opposition to His Word and a rejection of His Son, Jesus Christ. On this pathway eye has not seen nor ear heard nor will it ever enter the hearts of men who deny Him, what God has prepared for those who love Him and choose to walk in His way.
