Prayer is so vital to us as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. We came to faith in Him and to salvation through prayer; both those of the ones who loved us and ours. Prayer is essential for us in so many ways. The opportunity to live peaceful lives in a world ruled by men is tied to prayer.
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Prayer is the means by which we connect to the resources of Heaven. When we pray we speak to God we commune with Him in prayer. We submit our petitions to Him in prayer. We confess our faults and missteps in prayer and we offer up the joy and the sacrifice of praise to Him in prayer and praise.
Prayer reminds us of God’s majesty, sovereignty and power over His creation. Prayer reminds us of His love for us which is inexhaustible, uncontainable and undeniable.
“Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” Ephesians 3:15-19
Prayer puts us in touch with God in a way that opens a pathway to the flow of His blessings to us in every situation and circumstance of life. When we pray we bring the Spirit of God to bear on the broken things in our lives in order to bring His healing and restoration of things to God’s intended order.
“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” 2 Corinthians 3:17
Today let us take a moment to turn off the stuff of the day and turn our hearts to the Lord in prayer.
