Justice, Judgment & Mercy – Part 5
A Study of Isaiah 59-61
“And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the Lord. All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory.” Isaiah 60:3-7
“And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far…”
The Gentiles, those not partakers of the covenants of God, not the sons of Jacob, from the least to the greatest of all the nations shall come to the place of Jesus’ presence in the earth. His Light, shinning in the lives of the people of His Church, shall be pursued by those who grope in darkness until He appears. They will come with an acknowledgment and an acceptance of Jesus Christ as the only way of salvation and eternal life. Kings will bow before Him and humble themselves, bowing to His rule and sovereign reign over all.
and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side
In this time to come women will be giving birth, the nation shall be multiplying. This will be a time of great prosperity and blessing. Nursed at thy side is in reference to the common practice of the day where women would go about their daily activity with their infants strapped to their side.
Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee,
This phrase is more accurately translated in the Amplified Bible.
Then you shall see and be radiant, and your heart shall thrill and tremble with joy [at the glorious deliverance] and be enlarged; because the abundant wealth of the [Dead] Sea shall be turned to you, unto you shall the nations come with their treasures.” Isaiah 60:5
There will be great and overflowing rejoicing because God’s favor will be on all their work and even the Dead Sea will be the source of an inexhaustible supply of food filled with the water of life.
The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the Lord.
People, commerce, riches and wealth will come into the place of God’s presence and to His people. The Queen of Sheba came to Solomon bringing gifts of gold, incense and other precious gems and commodities. This prophecy alludes to that event. The camels represent the transportation of goods from the nations coming to the Lord. The dromedaries represent the swiftness of the way nations would rush to His Light.
From the beginning God’s intent was that man would live in a place of continual peace and joy, abundantly supplied with everything to sustain and bring purpose and fulfillment to life. We intrinsically know when things are not as they should be and it bothers us that things go wrong. Death is not as things should be. Sickness and poverty are not as things should be. Sorrow, injustice and defrauding the weak and helpless are not as things should be.
Thanks be to God, Jesus came and is coming again to finally set all things in right order again. And there will then be joy unspeakable and full of glory. And of that day the half has never yet been told.
I love this story of the Queen of Sheba’s reaction upon seeing the wealth and hearing the wisdom of King Solomon. Consider this as only a type and shadow of what we will see and know when in that day to come we will see Jesus face to face.
“And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he had built, And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the Lord; there was no more spirit in her. And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom. Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard.” 1 Kings 10:4-7
