Isaiah 45 — Part 2 - Hidden Treasure
“And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.” Isaiah 45:3
It is important to keep in mind that this prophecy was given 150 yeas before the events occurred. Cyrus of Persia was prophesied to receive “the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places.” Theses are metaphors for the riches of kings that are secreted away in vaults and places accessible only to the king and those to whom he chooses to make them known.
The wealth of any king that on the surface appears to be great, pales by comparison to what is hidden away from the eyes of his subjects. Of all that he receives in tribute, and all that is brought back as the spoils of war, all that is given to curry favor with him politically and all that comes from the taxes of the people is beyond comprehension to the casual observer.
Babylon was one of the richest kingdoms on the earth at the time of King Cyrus. But 150 years earlier, at the time of the prophecy, it was merely a rich kingdom not significantly greater than those in the regions around it. By the time Belshazzar, king of Babylon, was conquered and the city of Sardis captured by Cyrus, King of Persia they were the richest cities in the world.
But God gave them into the hands of Cyrus just as Isaiah had prophesied. This was further proof to Cyrus, to Israel and to all the nations that God, the God of Israel is God. This theme will be repeated throughout this prophecy. Only the true God could do these things and call into being events, people and circumstances before they existed.
Therefore, His Word is true and His promises are sure to every generation. He changes not. God is revealing to us, through Jesus Christ our Lord, the hidden riches of Heaven.
“All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” John 16:15
And in Heaven He will reveal even greater blessings to us.
“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” Revelations 2:17
For us now is the choice of doubting Him and not believing or of resting our hope and confidence in the truth of His Word and the certainty of His sovereign rule as King over all the earth and Heaven. Because He is truly God and God is Love, Therefore, we can say that Love is God’s sustaining power over our lives and nothing shall ever separate us from it.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:’For Your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.’ Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35-39
All that the Father has is now given to us through Jesus Christ our Lord. The only one who would try to persuade us otherwise is the devil, and he has no power over us. We need only resist Him by confessing, in the face of doubt, what God has promised us in His Word, and the devil will flee from us.
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
Does your present circumstance cause you to doubt of feel forgotten and alone? Does the state of your health, your finances, your relationships, your job, your business, your children, your spouse, you friends seem strained or on the brink of failure?
These are only the attempts of the enemy to draw you away from the Word of God and the blessings He has laid up for you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth you can speak to all these things and declare them to be in agreement with God. Say these and declare them daily out loud! If you find some hard to believe right now, say them anyway. They will get down into your heart as you hear them. Remember, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. [Romans 10:17]
