Today — An Encounter With God
Today, (yesterday, if you are reading this on Monday) I went to the grocery store after Church to pick up a few things. While taking some cartons of Almond Milk off the shelf and placing them in my cart I encountered a lady who commented about what I was doing. She asked, “Do you buy sale to sale?” My first thought was she wanted to initiate a conversation, but I was in my usual, I-really-don’t-want-to-talk-right- now,-I’m-just-trying-to-get-the-items-I-need-and-get-out-outta-here attitude. So I said “No, I’m just replacing what I need, I ran out this morning.”
She was pleasant and cheerful, so I smiled and made small talk for a moment. She commented again about stocking up during sales and then I moved on, totally unaware that the Almond Milk was indeed on sale today.
A few moments later I saw her again. This time she was talking with someone else and I was moving quickly not to be interruptive of their conversation as I passed by.
Finally, I was on an aisle on the other side of the store in the middle of the aisle just searching the shelves for a supplement when she came down the aisle and said, “Well you just continue shopping and have a great day. By the way, you know how much God loves you?”
Whoa! I wasn’t expecting that! I looked up from my shopping cart and actually made eye contact with her and said, “Yes I do.”
She continued, “Well, He just wants you to know that He’s got you covered. I don’t know what you are going through or what your need is but God wanted me to tell you He’s got it covered. So, you don’t worry about it. He’s taking care of it.” I said, “Thank you, I receive that.”
Needless to say she had my full attention. As she turned and walked away, she looked back at me one more time and said, “Psalm 91,” as she pointed a finger upward, looking up and then back at me with a smile. I smiled back and looked again at the shelves for a moment, but quickly turned to look in her direction again, as I thought about what she had said, but she was gone.
It crossed my mind to run after her to ask what made her come up to me and speak that word, but I decided to just receive it and thank God for it. I did not know her and to my knowledge had never seen her before, but there was something about her face and her cheerful spirit that was evident she had a purpose for being there. As I thought back about the encounter I realized she had no shopping cart and nothing in her hands during either of the three encounters with her. And as she left she had nothing that she had purchased.
For the rest of the day I have been thinking about her and more importantly what she said. I have thought about Isaiah 41:10
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10
I’ve also thought about these Words of Jesus.
“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. John 14:13-14.
I know that God is no respecter of persons. That is, He doesn’t favor one person over another in the expressions of His love. He doesn’t treat some of His kids with favor and ignore the others. We are all one body in Christ. So, this word that came to me today I receive as a prophetic word of encouragement and affirmation, confirming His promise to me and to all of us who believe His Word.
I needed to hear this word today and so, I am passing it along to you that you may hear it also and be encouraged and affirmed in your faith that you can rest in His love and promises knowing your prayers are and have been heard and are being answered.
God loves you. He is with you and He’s got you covered. Whatever your need is today and in the coming days He’s taking care of it. This is God’s Word to us today and for the coming days. Think about it, meditate earnestly on it and consider how much God cares for you and will never abandon or forsake you. You are His treasure. He is pouring out His favor and blessing on you now and in the coming days. Believe Him, expect Him, and receive Him.
Now consider Psalm 91.
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.” Psalm 91:1-16
