The Truth of God
“He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” Psalm 91:4
God’s truth is the foundation of His power and authority. His truth, like His love, His mercy and His grace are all uniquely and exclusively one in unity with His Spirit and His Son, Jesus Christ. They each are bound together by the same immutable, unchanging truth of His Word. His Word and His truth are both spirit and life. They cannot be separated from one another nor can God’s truth be separated from His Word.
Just as the wings of the Cherubim cover the mercy seat of the Ark and symbolically provide shade and protection for those who meet with God there, so shall God’s presence in the reality of our days provide a place of defense, protection and rest for all those who trust in Him. His truth, His Word will provide all that we need for defense against the devil and all his minions. Every evil, destructive death dealing act in the world finds its origin in Satan, the prince of darkness, the liar and the thief. Jesus called him the father of lies. And those who perpetrate evil in the world are the sons of their father the devil.
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8:44
His desire is to kill us and he thinks by doing so he will stop the work of God’s love in the world through our Lord Jesus Christ. Our only defense against Him is the Word of God and that Word in truth is our armor of defense and our weapon of warfare, indeed that Word (the truth of the Scriptures) is our shield and buckler.
With the Word in our hearts and spoken out of our mouths we defend ourselves against the lies of the devil that would attempt to deny the sovereignty and authority of God to work His will in our lives.
With the Word of God in our hearts and spoken out of our mouths we countermand and render powerless the attacks of the enemy against our lives, our health, our strength, our knowledge, our wisdom and our understanding of the love of God, and against our provision and our peace.
To be covered with God’s feathers means to be intimately close enough to Him to feel His embrace and know His presence in a deep an abiding way. It is the place of ultimate safety and protection from every opposing force. There is no power or authority greater than His. In His presence nothing shall by any means hurt us.
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19
