The Greatest Love
The capacity of man to love is measured by what he says and what he does and more by what he does than what he says. Which is the greater love? The love of husband to wife, of parent to child, of child to parent, of brother to brother or sister, or the love of friend to friend? Who are your friends for whom you would lay down your life? Included in this is the possibility of dying for a friend but there is also a practical everyday meaning to laying down your life for your friends. Every time you lay aside your agenda to show kindness and hospitality to a friend, to give sacrificially even when you have little for yourself, to go the extra mile, to care and love even when it’s not convenient, these are also ways we lay down our lives for our friends.
What deeper meaning can you hear in these words?
Hint: 1) Husband and wife are one flesh
Hint: 2) Jesus is our friend and Savior Redeemer
Hint: 3) Our friends are those we trust with our lives and whose lives are trusted with us
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
