Patience and the Promise
Hope results from patience and experience, and patience is essential to receive the promise of God. What is the promise of God? [John 2:25]
“For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise”. Hebrews 10:36
It is the Word of God to every believer in Jesus Christ who is the seed of Abraham and therefore, heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. [Romans 8:17; Galatians 4:7] Faith is what we do in living the will of God, but patience is the pathway to receiving the promise. We need both in full measure. Now perfection does not mean that we become perfect, without any human frailty or foibles. The perfection here is one of full access to the resource of God as human beings saved by grace through faith, being changed from glory to glory and becoming transformed by the will of God to be conformed to the image of Christ.
“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope…” Romans 5:3-4
“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” James 1:3-4
