Salt of the Earth, Light of the World
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” Matthew 5:13
Everywhere we go we are to shine the light of the Word of God on everything and everyone with whom we come into contact. We do this not only by our words but moreover by our deeds. Our attitudes our interactions with friends and strangers are also to be illuminated by the Word of God motivated and empowered by faith and love. Also we are salt of the earth. That is we are the seasoning that adds zest to life but also stimulates thirst. As salt we are called to bring something of God’s pleasure, joy, peace, favor, blessing, peace, kindness, gentleness, encouragement, comfort, enthusiasm and goodness that causes others to savor His presence demonstrated through us and to thirst for more of Him [Matthew 5:6] because they have been with us.
We are the salt of the earth and the light of the World. Now our light is not the source of The Light. That Light is Jesus. We are a reflection of That Light as it shines on us and through us from within us by the work of the Holy Spirit with us and in us.
What do hear in this passage as you read it aloud and meditate on it throughout the day? How are you being salt and light to the world?
