Getting Ready For - Part 4

“Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.” Psalm 96:6

Hear what the Scriptures tell us concerning those who are in authority, policemen, judges, governors, presidents and kings and why they should be accorded respect and honor.

“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.” Romans 13:1-7

Now if these who are merely men deserve honor, how much more does God, Who through Jesus Christ, the Word, created all things by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The ultimate honor and majesty that surrounds God belong to Him alone. But we may also honor Him when we honor those whom He sends and those who act on His righteous behalf. Showing due respect to God is to honor His ministers as we would honor Him. Not worshiping them but showing them the respect and the regard their office deserves submitting ourselves to their righteous authority.

If we would gain honor we must seek it from the Only One from whom it counts. The honor of men is nothing compared to the honor that comes from God to men. But there is an honor we can give to God. The honor we can give Him is to put Him first and foremost in all things, having no greater authority or any greater power to whom we submit ourselves.

Honor and majesty abide with God and He distributes it to whomever He wills. His majesty is all that surrounds Him and proceeds from Him of glory, beauty, magnificence and radiant splendor before His royal throne as King of Kings and Lords of Lords.

Strength and beauty also abide with Him and He extends it to men as He pleases. God cannot be separated from His glory. It is the very essence of His being.

“For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily…” Colossians 2:9

“In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:11-12

“…and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” Ephesians1:19-23

This is the astounding and amazing message of the Gospel. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we are now possessors of the fullness of the glory of God by the indwelling presence of Jesus in us and the Holy Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are now the sons of God and therefore, through that son-ship we have obtained a measure of the honor, the majesty the strength and beauty that is the glory shining in our hearts as the glory shines in the face of our Lord Jesus Christ. As the Church, the Body of Christ we are now the expression of the fullness of God.

As God displayed His glory through Jesus Christ as He lived, taught and worked miracles, signs and wonders during His time of ministry on earth, He is now displaying through us, His church, that same glory in myriad ways everyday. And this glory will remain with us until the coming of the Lord in power and great glory.

“Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.” 1 John 4:17

Because of His amazing grace, let gratitude for God’s loving kindness and immeasurable grace and favor toward us be the driving force of your preparation for this Thanksgiving celebration season.
