Getting Ready For - Part 7

A Meditation on Psalm 96

“Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns; the world also is firmly established, it shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously.” Psalm 96:10

It is remarkable that for as long as I have been alive I have heard threats of the world being destroyed by one weapon of manmade annihilation or another. And certainly there have been major areas of the world that have been devastated by wars throughout its history and yet the world still holds together despite all the attempts to destroy it. And up to the very end of the age the Scriptures tell us that wars and rumors of wars will increase in the last days, until the final judgment of God is meted out on the evil in the world. But until then ”The world is firmly established.” No act of man will change that and God will not be caught by surprise. “It shall not be moved.” Only, when He is ready shall judgment come on the earth. “He shall judge the people righteously.” And His judgment shall not be partisan or with partiality.

Does this mean we should not be vigilant, watchful and aware of the works and schemes of evil men and nations to rob us of our peace? By no means. The Bible makes it clear that our adversary the devil goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour…” 1 Peter 5:8

So we have to be on our guard at all times. We must declare the Word of God and by it push back against the evil and vile works of darkness in the world. Left unchecked this adversary will wreak havoc on the nations, on as many people as he can. But his power is no match for the power of God and the Holy Spirit working in and through us, the people of God, The Church, The Body of Christ. Greater is He that is in us than he (the adversary) that is in the world.

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

So, this is our message to the nations. God alone reigns over all He has created, over everyman and nation. What He has ordained to exist will remain until He is ready to remove it. No work of man for evil shall prosper beyond the boundaries of God’s restraint.

“Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns; the world also is firmly established, it shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously.” Psalm 96:10
