“Are You Kidding Me!”

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” John 10:27-28

“While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” Matthew 17:5

Ever have that thought, when something that just doesn’t make any sense suddenly occurs and disrupts or otherwise jars you from the relative sense of peace and calm of your day? (I’ve heard that there are people who actually have peaceful and calm times during their day. Ha!)

But you know the kind of thing I’m talking about; something that just seems to come out of left field and takes you by surprise. Or what about those times when that inner voice tells you something is not right, you’d better call and check on things? And then, when you do, you discover that you just averted a crisis that was set to create any number of snowballing complications in your life.

After that crisis is averted just in the nick of time, you might be tempted to dwell on what might have happened “if, “ and you feel that uneasy feeling of “What else am I missing that could be looming on the horizon?”

Anxiety before the fact and fear after the fact; both are weapons of the enemy. The Holy Spirit gives us warnings and insight to help us avoid the big and little pitfalls of life and free us from all anxiety. If we are wise we will heed those warnings immediately.

Fortunately, He is relentless in His pursuit of us, so, He will keep nudging us with ever-stronger impulses until we respond. If we just choose to keep ignoring Him then we set ourselves up for possible disasters that could have been avoided.

A quick personal story…

Sometime just prior to Federal tax filing a few years ago, I had a thought to call my tax preparer to see if the files I had faxed to him to e-file for me on March 22nd, had been received by his office and that the filing had been prepared.

I had the thought to call , but I didn’t call that day even though the thought came at least three times during the day. I was busy doing other things, so I just decided to do it later. A few more days past and again I had the thought, this time in the middle of the night when it wasn’t possible to reach anyone, so, I decided to wait and call during the day.

I didn’t make a note of it, just thought I would remember and take care of it later. I was expecting a small, but very much needed, refund so I was looking for it every day.

Several more days passed and several more thoughts came to me to call and check on it. I didn’t. Finally, today, one day before the deadline to file taxes, the thought came again. Now considering I had faxed the files 21 days ago and the first thought to call and check on it was 14 days ago I could have possibly had the refund by now. Well as you might suspect the files were never received by my tax preparer’s office.

I panicked, slightly. I scurried around trying to find the signed files I had faxed. Finally found them and remained on the phone with his office to make sure they were received. They did receive them and they were filed that night.

If I had been wise I would have heeded the first call of the Spirit and taken care of the problem and thus avoided the panic. Why the file didn’t go through when I first sent them? I don’t know. But God knew and tried several times to alert me to that fact.

Sometimes the “are you kidding me?” moments in life have their roots in things we failed to do when the Spirit clearly spoke to us about them and we put off taking care of the problem before it became a…“WHAT?

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me…” John 10:27

“For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice…” Psalm 95:7

“Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” Psalm 100:3

“Father, God thank You for the Holy Spirit who is here with us and in us, to guide and protect us from the ways of our enemy. Lord, give us ears to hear and hearts to understand and quickly respond to the Spirit’s leading. Give us the readiness to heed the moments when we should move; when we should speak, when we should be silent and when we should act according to Your WORD, Your Will and Your Ways.

We acknowledge that all wisdom comes from You, therefore, we seek wisdom as the principle thing and we seek understanding as the fundamental thing that we may gain wisdom, understanding and knowledge by which we will have good success.

Thank You, Father for the knowledge of the riches of the glory of the mystery among every believer, which is Jesus Christ in us, the hope of glory. Thank You, Lord Jesus Christ, Thank You Holy Spirit, Thank You Father, God. To You, Lord God Almighty, be all glory, honor, majesty, dominion and praise, now and forevermore. Amen.”

Are you listening? Did you hear that? The Lord is speaking to you. Listen to Him and follow Him. It can save you from many troubles now and in the future.
