This Is The Confidence
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 1 John 5:14-15
Confidence – an absolute certainty of a person or situation to act or become consistent with our expectation. – the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.
Without necessarily acknowledging it, we all, all mankind, have placed our confidence in certain things and people with whom we interact every day, and some more than others. We take certain things for granted and that is as it should be.
Day and night, night and day come in ever recurring cycles and we are confident they will continue to do so until Jesus returns to restore all things. We know those close to us, spouses, children, proven friends all have a measure of our confidence entrusted to them. We are confident in their love for us, if indeed we have seen that love manifest again and again over time. We are confident in those we trust as teachers, pastors, evangelists, apostles and prophets that they have our best interest at heart and will never knowingly cause us harm or lead us astray.
But our greatest and most worthy confidence is in, and ought to be simply and fully in Jesus Christ, our Lord, the WORD of God. That confidence cannot and will not ever fail us.
“For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.” Proverbs 3:26
He alone is our ultimate assurance that we will not be lost, forsaken or abandoned, and we will not utterly fall or be entrapped without rescue or recompense.
The fear of the Lord, (the reverential regard, worship and submission to God) is the beginning of wisdom.
“In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.” Proverbs 14:26
Our faith, trust and confidence in the Lord is a place where we can run to in the time of trouble, a place where we are protected and a place where we are taught by the Spirit of the Lord.
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ…” Philippians 1:6
Finally, we are confident in our Heavenly Father’s love for us that what He has promised He will do and the work He began in us at the moment our rebirth in Christ He will complete.
With confident assurance, we live in the hope that will not be disappointed.
