Jesus — Think about Him

Our emotions can be easily moved from one extreme to another and just about everything in between, especially when it comes to things that we think will affect our lives positively or negatively, real or imagined. The information media programing today is a particularly significant source for such thought. Movies are intended to drive us emotionally, Music is a powerful force to touch and impress our emotions, news, real or imagined, especially the ways it is presented today and the many methods of distributing it 24/7 can drive every emotion we have all in the space of a few minutes. Euphoria to depression, joy to sorrow, happiness to anger, peacefulness to anxiety and all those are experienced with just the headlines or trailers on the bottom of the screen.

Is this how we were created to live? Is this why Jesus came to live and die for us? Is this the carefree living in the commandment, “Be careful for nothing but in all things through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving make your request known unto God, and the peace of God that passes all understanding will keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus our Lord?”

No. Gentleness and moderation, grounded in prayer, supplication and thanksgiving are the means by which we are instructed to achieve and maintain peace in our minds and hearts, while we are in the midst of the madness of this world. In it but not of it, not operating by its methods and systems. The world feeds on fear, tragedy, violence, destruction, upheaval, unrest, dissatisfaction and all such things that tare at the soul,

“Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:5

“Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:5-7

As reborn spiritual beings we are no longer subject to our emotions and passions without the ability to control them. Perfect peace is ours now for the taking. It comes when our minds are stayed om Jesus and our thoughts are continually toward His Word, His Wisdom, His Will, His Ways,

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3

Better to be inspired by higher thought, increased joy and peace, greater compassion, deeper love, wider mercy and fuller grace in the good news of Jesus Christ, than to be irritated, agitated, angered and depressed by the News “Noise” of the day.
