Unfathomable God, Unfathomable Lord, Unfathomable Love
“O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” Romans 11:33-36
When I stop to consider the wisdom, knowledge, power, grace and love of God, I am amazed to think how small, trivial and insignificant all the blustering, pontificating and prideful boasting of man becomes. Try as he might man’s wisdom will never exceed the Father’s. His ways are true and righteous and all else is a lie. When men boast of their great knowledge or their great inventions and discoveries as though they alone were responsible for them, they only make themselves fools in the eyes of God and angels. When the self-righteous takes pride in his compassion and care for the creatures God has created, yet cares little for the life of those created in His image and after His likeness they show themselves to be hypocrites, charlatans and woefully ignorant of the love of God.
God is not a man that He should lie. Nor is He like men in nature that He needs to repent. [Num. 23:19] His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. His ways and His thoughts are higher than any man’s. [Isaiah 55:8-9]
Any man who is wise at all will realize that God’s ways and thoughts, apart from Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a true believer, cannot be fully comprehended nor contained in the human mind. It is a foolish exercise to pursue it. Still, those who deny His existence strut about in their ignorance and deception, thinking themselves to be wise, but making themselves fools. [Romans 1:20-24]
The truly sad part of this, beyond the irrational aspect of it, is that those who deny God are only denying themselves the greatest gift that life has to offer—salvation, eternal life and the joy of knowing God in His fullness.
Yet, this is why Jesus came to save sinners. For we were all dead in our trespasses, ignorance, and sins. We were all guilty of thinking ourselves to be wise, we were all guilty of believing the lie of the serpent rather than trusting the commandment of God. [Genesis 2:16-17, Genesis 3:1-10]
But, praise GOD for His incomprehensible grace and love that has come to redeem us and restore us to wholeness and life and that more abundantly through Jesus Christ, our Lord. This is our gift of love from the Father and Jesus our Lord. This is our message to one another and to the world and this is our prayer today and everyday.
“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” Ephesians 3:14-21
