Arm Yourself With The Real Weapons of Warfare
If you follow current social trends and much of what is presented as news then you know that Christianity and traditional Biblical values are not as popular as in past generations. However, despite the challenges to its place in the lives of most American the church still remains strong and true to its calling. The true Church is alive and thriving in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the hearts of every believer.
This is not to say that we have no resistance to our faith in Jesus Christ to live Godly lives in an ungodly world. We have them daily, and mostly not in physical things but in spiritual ways that directly affect us in the material world, thoughts, words, fears, strivings, criticisms, cynicisms, negativisms, pessimisms and threats are assailed against the church daily and persecutions and offences still arise because of the Word.
“And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; and have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.” Mark 4:16-17
The Apostle Paul understood the Christian life at a dimension of persecutions more than most.
“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.” 2 Corinthians 4:8
But, we are not helpless victims. We are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ Who loves us. [Romans 8:37]
“As it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:36-39
Things will come to challenge our faith. The enemy of God is our enemy and he hates us as he hated our Lord, but he has no authority over us. Still he goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom He may devour.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour…”1 Peter 5:8
We have an adversary but greater than the adversary we have an Advocate, Jesus Christ the Righteous. [1 John 2:1]
We are in a warfare, but not against flesh and blood. We are not in a war with people. We are in a spiritual war that can only be fought effectively with spiritual weapons.
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; and having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-6
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints…” Ephesians 6:10-18
And these are our weapons.
loins girt about with truth
the breastplate of righteousness
feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace
the shield of faith
take the helmet of salvation
the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God
praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit
watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints
By these we wage war in the spirit. By these we defeat the purposes of the devil. By these we stand with confidence and assurance in the Word of God.
More on these tomorrow...
