The Weapons of Our Warfare – Part 2
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth,” Ephesians 6:13-14
And this is our armor. Part 2
1. loins girt about with truth
2. the breastplate of righteousness
3. feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace
4. the shield of faith
5. take the helmet of salvation
6. the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God
7. praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit
8. watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints
By these we wage war in the spirit. By these we defeat the purposes of the devil. By these we stand with confidence and assurance in the Word of God.
The breastplate, like the girdle of truth, is a defensive weapon. It protects the heart and the vital organs of the body’s respiratory, cardio and digestive systems. The Scriptures admonish us to keep (protect and maintain the health of) our hearts with all diligence because it is the place from which life issues for us. The healthier our hearts, the healthier our lives.
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:20-23
As a protective/defensive weapon, the breastplate of Righteousness reminds us that our righteousness is not a result of our great goodness, but it is the work of Christ for us and declared to us by God the Father. We are righteous because He says we are. The breastplate is righteous because it is His breastplate
we are wearing. It is uniquely fashioned to be the perfect warfare garment for Him. When we put it on we appear, in the realm of the Spirit, to be just like Him. Therefore, there is no opposing weapon that can penetrate this armor and harm us.
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.” Isaiah 54:17
Truth and righteousness work together to cover and protect us from the lies, deceptions, false accusations, criticisms, abusive speech, wanton debilitating attacks against our peace and wellbeing — all attempts to belittle diminish, frustrate, distract and confuse us in order to weaken our faith and rob us of hope. But all of their efforts come to naught when we’re covered in the full armor of God. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we have the victory.
“O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.” Psalm 98:1
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians15:57
“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” 1 John 5:4
