The Weapons of Our Warfare – Part 3
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth,” Ephesians 6:13-14
And this is our armor. Part 3
1. loins girt about with truth
2. the breastplate of righteousness
3. feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace
4. the shield of faith
5. take the helmet of salvation
6. the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God
7. praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit
8. watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints
By these we wage war in the spirit. By these we defeat the purposes of the devil. By these we stand with confidence and assurance in the Word of God.
The Gospel indeed is to be preached to all the world. That is the great commission from Jesus to the Church. But the Scriptures asks the question,
“And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” Romans 10:15
In order to preach the Gospel we need to go where the Gospel needs to be heard. Our feet, metaphorically speaking, is the means by which we get there. What we bring is the message of peace, peace with God and peace with one another. Indeed, we are to be at peace with all people as far as it lies within us to be.
“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord…” Hebrews 12:14
“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” Romans 12:18
With people (flesh and blood) we are to be the Ambassadors of Peace from our Father, God and our Lord Jesus Christ. We are to live without antagonism and hatred for those who oppose us. We are not to strive with them but show patience and a willingness to teach the truth with gentleness and humility. Our goal should not be to win an argument but rather to inform and lead men (all people) to the truth.
"And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” 2 Timothy 2:24-26
Having our feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace protects our feet (our means of making contact with the world) and enables us to walk in hostile places without fear of our message being
compromised or corrupted by the attacks of the adversary.
The Gospel of peace is this. God did not send His Son to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved. [John 3:16-17]
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
The Gospel of Peace declares, God loves us and Jesus is the proof of that love.
