The Weapons of Our Warfare – Part 5
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth,” Ephesians 6:13-14
And this is our armor. Part 3
1. loins girt about with truth
2. the breastplate of righteousness
3. feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace
4. the shield of faith
5. take the helmet of salvation
6. the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God
7. praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit
8. watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints
By these we wage war in the spirit. By these we defeat the purposes of the devil. By these we stand with confidence and assurance in the Word of God.
Apart from its function as a protection for the head the Helmet of Salvation is the defensive weapon that keeps us in touch with “good sense.” People often say of one person or another who acts in a completely off the wall way that they have “lost their minds” or, as the British like to say, “they’ve gone completely mental.” Foolish behavior is born in the heart of the unbelieving and particularly those who have been brainwashed or have chosen to believe there is no God. They are so academically superior in knowledge and wisdom that there is no room in their highly developed thinking to believe in God. But this is what God thinks of them.
“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” Psalm 14:1
“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.” Romans 1:22-23
The Ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian Gods, for example, were fashioned in the likeness of all kinds of creatures including mankind. Carved in wood and stone by the hands of men, they were worshipped by those who were blind to the truth because of sin and rebellion against God and the foolish and ignorant who said there is no God.
What you don’t know can hurt you. And what you think you know can also hurt you. Those who think themselves to be wise apart from God are fools. God laughs at them.
“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.” Psalm 2:1-4
With the Helmet of Salvation, we are continually reminded that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, that our salvation is not of ourselves and that apart from God we can do nothing, but with God all things are possible. These are the foundation truths on which we build our lasting faith and these are the principles on which our hope rests. We anchor our life to none other than Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Lord. Those who oppose God rest there hope in the acceptance and applause of men. Our hope is in God and doing what pleases Him.
This is the Helmet of Salvation, knowing Jesus and confessing Him alone for our salvation.
