Our Worship Of God As Ministry and Witness
“And Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” Luke 4:8
Indeed the primary purpose of our worship is to honor and magnify the Lord our God, to sing songs of praise and adoration to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. But did you ever think bout the fact that when we worship we witness to the world the glory of our God? When they see us they see the one we worship, they hear His words, they are embraced by His Spirit and they find a place to rest their hope.
Our music also is ministry to the needy, to the broken hearted, the weary, the poor in spirit and the poor in the basic necessities of life. Our songs can lift up the heavy burdened and encourage the broken. When we sing in worship with all our hearts to the Lord, those who do not know Him are drawn to Him because of our declarations of Love to Him and because our songs are songs filed with light and life affirming truth.
As we have opportunity, let’s consider ways we can bless others beyond our Church with the good news of the Gospel through our worship. Unashamed, unrestrained worship of God that engages the whole heart is what is pleasing and acceptable to God the Father.
“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5
“And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.” Mark 12:30
When we worship with less than our whole heart we send a message to the unbeliever that God is only marginally valued by us and therefore not worthy of their serious consideration. If God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were only one among many co-equal gods, then a minimal level of enthusiasm for Him would be at least a reasonable consideration.
But, God is God and He alone, Creator, Redeemer, Savior, Comforter, Provider, Sustainer, Baptizer, Counselor, Lamb of God, The Eternal Sacrifice For The Sins Of The World, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace, Emmanuel, Lord and King. Therefore, He alone is worthy of our Highest and most ardent worship.
The world so desperately needs to see the real Jesus, the compassionate, loving, merciful and gracious God, the true power of the Holy Spirit evident in the lives of His people. And we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. [Psalm 100:3] The world can see Him in our lives and particularly in our worship if we worship Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.
