Things To Reconcile 4

“I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before

Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who isthe blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.” 1Timothy 6:13-16

The charge to Timothy was to keep the commandment outlined in verses 11 and 12. The overall intent was that he would carry out his ministry and keep himself, in word and in conduct, above reproach until Jesus returned. This was His calling as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Not only was he not to be entangled with the snares of the world, but also just as important, he was to admonish the body of believers he served as a pastor in Ephesus to be on their guard always against the temptation to impurity through immorality, not exposing themselves to false teachers with their lusts for worldly treasures.

The apostle’s charge to Timothy is given greater gravity and significance because he made it in full recognition that all things are open to the sight of God and it is God alone who gives life to all things and Jesus as the faithful witness, Who even before the threat of Pilate, the scourging and mocking of the Roman soldiers and His imminent cruel and unimaginably painful death on the cross, still, even as He was dying spoke righteousness in bearing witness of the Word and will of God.

Paul’s closing words of worship are particularly poignant. Christ will reveal His glory in power and majesty to every believer. We will see Him exalted above all. He is the only Potentate, the only Monarch, Who rules with all power and authority. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords, the One alone who lives forever and ever, Who dwells in eternal and unapproachable light, Whom no man has seen, nor can any man see, to Him alone be all worship, honor and power everlasting.

AMEN, let it be so, and it is. AMEN, and so be it. AMEN and we agree, indeed! AMEN and AMEN, Yes, and Yes!
