When Faith is All You Have, Faith Is All You Need

“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.” Mark 11:22

“And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Matthew 17:20

For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37

We know that, according to the Scriptures, without faith it is impossible to please God.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

The foundation of everything that has to do with our relationship with God through Jesus Christ is faith. Beginning with our eternal salvation, we are saved by grace through faith.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God…” Ephesians 2:8

The ability to receive the grace of God is by our faith. We hear, we believe, we confess and we receive. That is the pathway of faith—hearing, believing, confessing and receiving.

Living in this world we are subject to the conditions of its brokenness. Some more than others experience life-threatening challenges daily, still others sometimes find themselves in a virtual and sudden downward spiral, physically, emotionally, financially or relationally, and are desperate for rescue before hitting the bottom of a pit where all is lost. Daily, all of us fight to achieve or maintain a reasonable degree of comfort and peace in life, but for most of us it is tough just keeping up with the ever-changing demands of everyday life.

When tough times come and you have no where to turn, no secrete stash to draw on, no hidden resources to dip into, when friends are few and none are able to help, what can you do. The streets of most large urban cities are full of people who have either given up on life or have succumb to poverty or mental illness, some, like the prodigal son have landed in a pit because they have squandered their livelihood with riotous, extravagant and wanton behavior, some are victims of abuse and left to fend for themselves, while other through a host human frailties have found it impossible to make their way through life with any degree of sufficiency to earn a living by righteous labor.

Whatever the reason for their present state of need or want, inadequacy or failure, there is only one true transforming power to restore and establish them in a productive, prosperous life where they are both blessed and are a blessing to others. That pathway is faith in Jesus Christ.

By faith we can get in touch with God and by faith we can receive whatever we need, even the full measure of our needs and more than enough from Him to be abundantly blessed and then to be a blessing to others so they can be supplied to be able to be a blessing to others and on it goes.

Substance — the quality of having a solid basis in reality or fact; the quality of being dependable or stable; the quality of being important, valid, or significant

We refer to things that are solid and substantial or things having great significance as having substance; not airy, ethereal, or fleeting, but strong, sure and immovable.

Faith is substance.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

So we could say faith is the solid basis on which our hope rests. Faith is dependable and stable. It is important, valid and significant. Now, faith that is substantive is first of all faith in God; in His character, His reliability, His truth, His Grace, His Power, His Mercy, His Justice, and His Love for us. All of which is summed up in faith in His Word.

When we pray by faith, we are placing our confidence and hopeful expectation squarely on the immutable, unchangeable, sure and unfailing Word of God.

When we are facing a need that we cannot meet from the measure of our limited resources, we have an invitation from God always to come to Him when we are laboring and heavy laden and He will give us rest.

The prayer of faith based on God’s promises in His Word is our invitation from God to seek Him, no matter what the situation, great or small. When we do, then He dispatches His ministering spirits to get the job done for us in Jesus’ name.

“Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” Hebrews 1:14

God is always, and in every situation ready to help us, to defend us, to keep and to deliver us from every snare of the devil.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1 KJV

“God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him.” Psalm 46:1 The Message

When faith is all you got faith is all you need.

Hear these words again from the old Gospel hymn. Have faith in God and confidently, expect Him to intervene on your behalf and fear not, the Lord is with you.

1 If the world from you withhold of its silver and gold, And you have to get along with meager fare, Just remember, in his Word, how he feeds the little bird - Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

Refrain:

Leave it there, leave it there, Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there; If you trust and never doubt, he will surely bring you out. Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

2 If your body suffers pain and your health you can’t regain, And your soul is almost sinking in despair, Jesus knows the pain you feel, he can save and he can heal Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. [Refrain]

3 When your enemies assail and your heart begins to fail, Don’t forget that God in heaven answers prayer; He will make a way for you and will lead you safely through Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. [Refrain]

4 When your youthful days are gone and old age is stealing on.

And your body bends beneath the weight of care,

He will never leave you then, he’ll go with you to the end

Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. [Refrain]
