Our Desire, God’s Direction
“When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Better is a little with righteousness, than vast revenues without justice. A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
Ultimately, all creativity comes from God. All discovery is made possible by what God has first created and set in motion. Everything that man can imagine is already known by God, and the end, the purpose, the effect on all living things is His to reveal or keep secret, hide or hold undiscovered until it pleases Him to reveal it.
So then, it is God who plants ideas in the hearts of men for them to pursue. He gives creative gifts of art, music, dance, architectural design, technology and all kinds of scientific discovery to mankind to occupy himself with searching out or stewarding to excellence in performance or application for the good of all.
We have nothing, we discovery nothing, we create nothing apart from God giving it to us. This is not to say that man is unnecessary in the process of creation and discovery. He is indeed essential. If he does not move to explore, experiment and try new things, attempt to push the boundaries of previous knowledge he will die. In fact, when it comes to the very basic course of living and maturing to fulfillment, God said that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." Hosea 4:6
But we don't have to be destroyed, because all knowledge is available to us through Jesus Christ our Lord. Indeed, we who are born again have the mind of Christ. We have access to His thoughts His, desires, His wisdom, His knowledge and understanding and His ability to reason and discern a matter and thereby make righteous choices and judgments.
"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ." 1 Corinthians 2:14-16
And this is what sets us apart from the natural world. We have access to the wisdom that comes from God.
Now, God has given each of us the capacity to choose those things that interests us and in which we find pleasure in pursuing to the highest excellence and achievement. This principle is true in everything that we do. We decide what we want to do, where we want to go, what we want to achieve and God provides the roadmap for us to get there; if we submit to His wisdom, His Word, His council and His Authority.
This is the key to success. Whatever the desire of our hearts, God's wisdom is the avenue by which we receive it, achieve it or accomplish it. God is committed to our success. He wants us to enjoy all things. He wants us to be truly free to enjoy all of His creation and He wants us to know the joy of imitating Him discovery, invention and excellence of performance to the fullest expression of our creative gifts and inventions.
"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" Romans 8:32
"Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Luke 12:32
"He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son." Revelation 21:7
Fame and fortune that may result from a person's gifts or inventions is a promise of God. Reward is also a part of the Kingdom of God and everyone who overcomes in this life will receive an eternal reward in the presence of God and the angels.
"A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men." Proverbs 18:16
By way of the gifts God has given us, like Joseph the patriarch before the courts of Egypt, great men will seek out those whose talents, knowledge (insight) and ability excel above others. The term great men, here simply refers to those who hold great power and authority in the spheres of the world’s governments, industry, influence, power or authority.
The desire for success is in our hearts. Knowing the steps by which we achieve it is the gift of God made available to whosoever will diligently seek Him for it. All of this we do by faith. [Hebrews 11:1-6]
