Our Father In Heaven On Earth
“Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:17
The Scriptures tell us that Jesus and the Father are seated, enthroned in Heaven. Having finished the work of salvation and being raised from the dead Jesus is no longer on the earth. He ascended into Heaven [Acts 1:11] after appearing on the earth for forty days following the Resurrection [Acts 1:3] during which time He appeared to over 500 people. [1 Corinthians 15:6] Now He is with the Father in Heaven. The Holy Spirit has been sent to us to abide with us forever and to be a surety for us that we will one day be reunited with Jesus and the Father forever in Heaven.
But we know that God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit are One and cannot be separated from One another.
“At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.” John 14:20
“For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit;and these three are one.” 1 John 5:7
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
So, wherever the Son is there also is the Father and wherever the Father is there also is the Holy Spirit. If the Holy Spirit is in us then so is the Father and the Son.
“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:23
“that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” John 17:21
Now what does this mean as we live moment to moment and walk out our faith daily? For one thing when we pray we do not need to look for God to come from some far place to intervene in our situation. He is as near to us as our heartbeat. When we cry out to Him he is feeling what we are feeling and He is with us through whatever the circumstance is that drives us to our knees in prayer. And if He is near us and in us His answer to our need is also immediate.
Our faith can rest assured of His care because we know He loves us and He has only our good in His plan for us. Because He is also in Heaven we are confident that He rules over all the earth and over all creation. No work of the devil will prosper in us and no weapon that is formed against us will prosper.
Moreover we are confident that whatever we ask the Father in the name of Jesus He will give it to us.
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.” John 15:16
“And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.” John 16:23
The needs and desires of our lives God knows well before we ask. And He wants to meet those needs and desires even more than we want them to be met and He will if we will ask believing.
There have been times in the past when I would read a passage of scripture that expresses a promise of God and get excited and feel confident that I would receive what HE promised until I got to the qualifier at the end of the sentence and all the faith would just drain out of me. You can have whatever you ask for…if you believe, if you have faith, if you faint not, if you continue. There always seem to be a catch. At least as far as I understood the scriptures back then. So I’d try to muster up all the faith I could do as many spiritual things as I could to win the favor of God to get my prayers answered particularly where my needs were concerned. I couldn’t imagine having “enough” faith to get my desires met I was to busy just trying to get by with the basic needs of life.
What I didn’t know was God was not withholding any
