Proverbs — News From the Source – Part 21¬- C
“Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.” Proverbs 4:10-13
There is no substitute for wisdom. Godly instruction is essential for life and longevity. Knowing how to do the things necessary for good health, knowing how to keep the mind and body active and sharp are all the result of having wisdom and applying it to our lives with understanding. When we walk, that is, as we go through life pursuing day to day activities, in the course of our efforts we will not be hindered, distressed. Our way will not be made more difficult by the negative forces in this world. We will overcome these things by wise choices as we navigate through the challenges and unexpected attempts of the enemy to delay us , distract us or rob us of the necessary resources to accomplish our tasks.
When it becomes necessary to pick up the pace we won’t stumble about with unsure steps, being hurried or frantically running in circles, bumping in to walls and stumbling over obstacles we didn’t see. Wisdom will guide us and by wise maneuvering we will be lead through rough situations to reach our intended destination intact and un-agitated.
Wisdom is the force within us that sustains our life. Wisdom comes from God and is of the substance of God. The choice is ours to make, whether we will walk in the darkness and foolishness of this world’s ways, or walk in the wisdom from above which is God’s way. What is said of wisdom in Proverbs 4:10-13 is also said of God in Deuteronomy 30:20
“That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” Deuteronomy 30:20
God and wisdom are inseparable. He is our life and the length of our days. By Wisdom we take hold of life, and long life is wisdom’s reward.
