Proverbs — News From the Source – Part 21Just-D
“Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.” Proverbs 4:14-18
As much as the path of the wicked and the way of evil men refers to the places where the wicked and evil hang out and engage in their ungodly pursuits, it is also, and maybe even more so, a warning to avoid their manner of living, cunning, deceit, false witness, corruption, injustice, extortion, violence and every kind of soul and body destructive behavior.
Their lives are marked with restlessness and agitation.
They live to do harm to others and cause mischief, They take pleasure in causing men to stumble and fall, and their life sustaining food is their evil deeds. There is no redeeming quality to their works of wickedness and violence.
There are such men in our midst today. Some of them have amassed great sums of wealth and they use it to destroy as many lives as they can, through stealth, through bribery, fostering violence, intimidation, threats and lies. They have no moral restraint and nothing is beneath them treachery. Sadly, far too many who like them, and love their ways, gladly follow them to their own destruction. They are regarded in honor among their peerage of wickedness, but their days are not forever. They walk in darkness continually. They will soon be cut down as the grass.
“Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.” Psalm 37:1-3
The path of the just, their places of living and their ways of life shine as a light and their lights grow more brilliant with time unto the day of our Lord’s return, when we shall all be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. [1 Corinthians 15: 51-53]
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” Psalm 1:1-6
Walking in the path of the just is to walk in the way of righteousness, the way of our Lord Jesus Christ. To walk in the path of Jesus is to walk in the light of His Word. His Word is His wisdom given to us and revealed in us by His Spirit.
“Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” Psalm 107:8
