Proverbs — News From The Source – Part 22-B
"My son, give attention to my words, incline your ear unto my sayings..." Proverbs 4:20
Whose sayings are you inclining your ear unto? If most of us were to take serious inventory of what we are hearing everyday, and the percentage of time we're devoting to what we're hearing, I believe we would find out why we're in whatever condition we're in whether good or bad. In Mark's Gospel chapter 4 verse 24 Jesus said,
"Take heed what yo
u hear: with the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given."
Faith in and for anything comes by hearing. True hearing (with the ear of the Spirit) comes by the Word of God. Notice here the Word does not say "faith" comes by hearing the Word of God--- it does say "hearing" (the ability to confidently know something in the inner man) comes by (continually meditating in) the Word of God.
What we are hearing from all sources everyday, T.V., Radio, conversation from friends and strangers, what we ourselves are saying in public and private times, all of these are working to establish our "hearing" and thus develop our faith for either 1) the good things of God or 2) the fears of the world. If we are hearing only the world's view of the things going on around us, then we are going to have well developed inner fears, anxieties, discontentment, restlessness, agitations, poor personal esteem or sense of our true value; fears of disease, cancer, unknown illnesses, , recession, inflation, bankruptcy, emotional disaster, hemorrhoids, ingrown toenails, bad breath, dandruff, headaches, acne, the heartbreak of psoriasis, spotty glasses from the dishwasher and a host of conditions too numerous to declare.
On the other hand, if we are attending to the Word of God, meditating on the Good News, hearing what God has to say about Himself, about His Word (Jesus), about us and all that concerns us, then we will have "hearing" that results in faith to prosper (Joshua 1:8) as He is prosperous in all; to have good success; to lay hands on the sick (Mark 16:15-18) and they will recover; to walk in divine health and peace; faith that no plague shall come nigh our dwelling (Psalm 91:10) and 'no weapon formed against us shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17); faith to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked (Philippians 6:16); faith to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19); faith to cast down every imagination and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (II Corinthians 10:3-5); faith to face the threat of tribulation fully confident that our God shall deliver us out of all of them. (II Timothy 3:11-12, Psalm 34:19).
Like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, we would have faith to stand firm (Daniel 3) against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:11); faith to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh (Galatians 5:17); faith to resist the devil and he would flee from us (James 4:7); faith to consider not our limited circumstances nor the lies of 'the thief' who comes not, but to steal, to kill and to destroy, but to consider Jesus; that nothing shall be impossible to us if we only believe.(Matthew 17:20, Hebrews 4:19, 12:3)
“Father in the name of Jesus there are so many things that compete with our spirit to draw our attention away from you. But my desire is to know and to hear your voice, and then to do those things which are pleasing to you. Please strengthen our resolve to do Your will. Thank You, Father. In Jesus name I pray, A-men.”
The Word says that you have the mind of Christ, and nothing is impossible to you because you believe. You are blessed and you are a blessing. You operate skillfully in the affairs of life because you exercise the wisdom of God in all that you do.
