Proverbs — News From The Source – Part 22-E
“Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.” Proverbs 4:24
“Put away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you.” Proverbs 4:24 AMP
Froward= false, dishonest, contrary, stubborn, disobedient
Perverse= obstinate, aberrant, wicked, irrational, deviant, abnormal, contrary, rebellious, unreasonable, contradictory, mean, vicious
Among the most destructive speech that people engage in are the kinds of words include in what I call the five destructive “isms”— criticism, cynicism, judgmentalism, negativism and pessimism. These are the tools of division and strife among friends and colleagues, and the weapons of discouragement, of suppression of creativity and self-expression.
They label others as worthy of ridicule, unworthy of serious consideration or respect and they impugn the motives of those who do good things by accusing them of some nefarious intent. They find fault in everything and everybody no matter how beneficial their actions may be. Their words are full of darkness, oppression, fear mongering and death. The future for them is always doom and gloom. They oppose themselves and others.
Such people and their ways are to be avoided at all times. We are to put a great distance between those who traffic in these “isms” and ourselves.
We are people of life and the message of our faith is life and that more abundantly. We are the children of light. Our words should reflect that light so that we live consistent with the true nature of who we are in Christ.
“For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [lead the lives of those native-born to the Light].” Ephesians 5:8
Now it is clear that all these, pessimism, cynicism, judgmentalism, negativism and criticism, are more detrimental to the mental and physical health of those who engage in them, than they are to those that are the objects of their assaults.
As the children of light in the world our words, from the heart filled with the Word of God, bring hope, encouragement, comfort, exhortation, inspiration, compliment, praise and worth to those who hear us. Because we are filled with the life of God our Words are the expressions of His life to the world. Darkness and death dealing speech are far from us.
