Proverbs – News From The Source – Resist The Ways of The Fool
“Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. And why wilt thou, my son be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings. His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.” Proverbs 5:19-23
To drive home the point of the need and blessing of exclusivity in marriage, Wisdom tells us that giving into the momentary drives to satisfy the desires of the flesh with a strange woman (another metaphor for those things that are not of God) can lead to a life time of sorrow and destruction, physical illness and bondage to sin and misery of all kinds.
There is a reward and a continual blessing of health, Godly favor, goodness and peace for those who follow after righteousness and keep themselves pure from the destructive passions of the flesh.
Those who willfully choose to ignore wisdom and follow the dictates of their feelings and emotions, their ignorance and their stubborn determination to be the “know it all” despite the Holy Spirit convicting them to follow the path of life, will reap the fruit of the seeds of misery, poverty, want, sadness and woe they have sown. They will die because they refused instruction. They go astray because of the greatness of their folly.
No man comes to destruction because he pursues righteousness and calls on the Lord with those who seek His ways. But all who pursue folly will reap its rewards. Those who are righteous and who live to please God will be rewarded with life and that more abundantly. They will also find great success in life. They may face hardships along the way, but the Lord will deliver them out of all of them.
“For a righteous man may fall seven times, and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.” Proverbs 24:16
