Joy to The World the Lord is Come
“Fear not! For Behold I bring you good tiding of great joy which shall be to all people, unto you is born this day a Savior who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11
If there is anything we could all use a lot more of it is joy and laughter. It is proven to be a most effective stress reliever and blood pressure reducer from a medical standpoint and an effective means of refreshing the mind, the emotions and the spirit. Most of the songs of Christmas are intended to remind us that this is a season of light heartedness, of goodwill and joy intended for everyone.
For God so loved the world He sent the angels to the shepherds who were abiding in the field that holy night, to say, “Fear not! For Behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people, for unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11
These are weighty words, not mere commercial announcements. In that day the Scriptures described the people as the people that walked in darkness. But that night they saw a great light. Not just the radiance of the angels in the skies but the true Light born that night and lying in the manger. The Lightis Jesus and the glory of the Lord that shines in His face. [2 Corinthians 4:6] And joy was and is the intended response to it.
God wants us to be filled with Joy.
“These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” John 15:11
“Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” John 16:24
"And these things write we unto you, that yourjoy may be full." 1 John 1:4
So how do we get there?
First, it’s ok not to take our selves or anyone else so seriously. It’s ok to have fun with life. Not everything is earth shattering. Not everything is a crisis. People say and do funny things, but if everyone has to adhere to the strict and ever growing constrictions of PC speech we will soon be a totally humorless society of droids, with no emotions because anything we might say could offend someone.
True joy from the Lord came to the world in the person of Jesus Christ and even in His days on earth there were those who were offended by Him. But their claims of offense did not deter Him from going about doing good and healing all that were sick and oppressed of the devil. And the risk of someone claiming offense should not prevent us from spreading the joy of the Lord whenever and wherever we go.
The truth is there are only a miniscule few who want to rob us of our joy by denying us the freedom to speak the joys of the Lord abroad.
Come we that love the Lord and let your joys be known
Join in the song of sweet accord
Join in the song of sweet accord and thus surround the throne
And thus surround throne
Let those refuse to sing who never knew our God,
But children of the Heavenly king may speak their joys abroad,
May speak their joys abroad
(excerpt from “Marching To Zion” by Isaac Watts)
This is the season of joy, Joy to the World, because the Lord Jesus is alive from the dead enthroned in Heaven and living in the hearts of every believer. Joy is in us and we have the joy of the Lord as our strength. We celebrate the birth of our King with joy! So fill your house, fill your days and fill your hearts with joy. This is the will of God for us all.
Joy to the world the Lord is come
Let earth receive her king.
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing.
(excerpt from “Joy to the World” by Isaac Watts)
