“… shall Descend from Heaven with a shout.”
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
If history, true history, (not political rhetoric or “indoctrination for a cause” or social manipulation) teaches us anything it is that after thousands of years of his existence on the earth, man is as sinful and corrupt now as he ever was. This should come as no surprise to anyone because from the fall of Adam man’s attempt to establish his rule and dominance over the world around him on his on terms has been a colossal failure, year after year century after century, from one millennium to the next.
Undoubtedly, God has given man the knowledge and tools for creating things that improve the quality of our lives, and the means of maintaining and advancing his knowledge and understanding of himself and myriad volumes of information about creation, though some of the greatest minds still acknowledge that so little is known of all creation. Only a few have been willing to humble themselves under God’s authority and power to gain the true wisdom that comes from above that brings peace and life more abundantly. Those who have, however, have enjoyed unparalleled prosperity and furthered the cause of the Kingdom of God worldwide. Among those, America has been particularly blessed and favored among nations for a few hundred years, holding to her motto as “…one nation under God…”
Now it seems we stand on the brink of the destruction of the very foundations of truth on which this nation was founded. There are those in government, education, and the information/news and entertainment media who have been bewitched and brought under the control of the insidious demonic attempts of the devil to undermine and remove all connection to God and the truth of His Word from our national discourse in both public and private ways of life. By misrepresentations, lies, cunning deceptions, indoctrination of the young, and promoting false claims of the virtues of what was and is in the eyes of God sin, they have succeeded, at least for the moment, in convincing many young people in particular that long established immutable truths of life are suddenly irrelevant or “toxic” to their good mental health and well being.
No longer are they content to hide and slip their death motivated agenda into the public discourse stealthily, now they boldly declare that the killing of the innocent, both in the womb and out is a right to be applauded and celebrated, they boast that it is a good thing to take from the one who through diligent labor and wise preservation and investment have gain a degree of wealth, that the fruit of their labors must be given to those who by sloth, waste and unwillingness to work have come to poverty. They unashamedly dismiss the Bible and the Christian faith as archaic, even barbaric, labeling those who live and abide by its principles as bigots, phobic, haters and the like as their false accusations go on.
We hear daily what seems to be a relentless drumbeat of criticism of our nation’s founding fathers and the principles on which they crafted our documents of government. It is no coincidence that those documents are replete with references to God our Creator and quotations specifically from the Scriptures of the Judeo/Christian faith that has at its center the person of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. They knew an understood that apart from God they could do northing and unless the Lord builds the house they labor in vain who build it. [Psalm 127:1]
Not withstanding what men may say, the Word of God will stand forever and those who trust Him for their salvation will be saved from the judgment to come on the earth for sin.
Despite the efforts of those to deny our God and to tear away at the fabric of our union as a nation of people who believe in God and are pleased to live by His Word, God will not be mocked nor will He quickly destroy them from the face of earth, because the same Jesus who died to save us also died to save them. They are doing what they do because they don’t know the truth or have refused to accept it. So while God is being patient wit them we must also, motivated by love, pray for them and be patient with them, being always ready to teach in an attitude of gentleness and meekness.
“And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” 2 Timothy 2:24-26
But we must also holdfast to the truth of God’s Word and not be swayed or intimidated into abandoning our faith. God is still the same as He was when those Words were first written. And the promise of Jesus’ coming is still sure and unchanged. He will return in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye and we will all be changed to be like Him. In the meantime we have work to do.
“Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.” Titus 1:9
“Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray Godyour whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will doit.” 1Thessalonians 5:14-24
