It’s Still Good and Still News
“Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.” 1 Peter 1:10-12
The prophets of old envisioned the grace of God that would come to us and they searched diligently for it not knowing when the day of the Messiah’s coming would be. They saw that day in a vision by the revelation of the Holy Spirit, but they did not experience it in their lifetime. They testified of the suffering of Christ and of the glory that would follow Him. The time of His coming was revealed to them. Though they faithfully foretold it, it was not for them, but for those who were alive at His coming and even more fully for us that they prophesied. Even Anna and Simeon [Luke 2:25-35; Luke 2:36-38] who saw the birth of the Messiah did not live to see the birth of the Church on the day of Pentecost, some 33 year later.
So, now the words of the prophets are ours to hear and to preach now and to the generations to come. Salvation has come to all mankind and that Salvation is in Jesus Christ and Him alone. The Gospel the Good News is still “hot of the presses.” It is as ancient as time and as new as tomorrow, because it lives in the power of the Almighty [Genesis 17:1], Unfathomable, Unsearchable, Uncontainable [Romans 11:33],All Knowing, All Seeing [Isaiah 46:10; 1 Kings 8:39; 1 John 3:20], All and Only Creator, God [Isaiah 40:28; John 1:1-3], from Everlasting to Everlasting [Psalm 90:2], All Powerful [1 Chronicles 29:11],All Glorious [Ezekiel 15:11; Psalm 145:5]All Majestic [Isaiah 33: 20-22],and Resplendent [Ezekiel 16:14], Radiant in Beauty [Psalm 145:5], The Only High and Exalted Ruler Over All [Nehemiah 9:5; Psalm 38:18; Psalm 97:9]
He is the Great High Priest [Hebrews 4:14],The Lord of Hosts [2 Samuel 7:26], The Commander of the Angels of Heaven [Joshua 5:14], The Blessed and Only Potentate, King of King and the Lord of Lords [1 Timothy 6:15]
He is our Healer, our Savior, Our Comforter, Our Peace, Our Baptizer in the Holy Spirit, Our Wisdom, Our Righteousness, Our Sanctification and Our Redemption. He is our Source and Our Provider, He is our Joy and in Him we have more fulfillment in this life than we can contain and even greater in the ages to come.
This unfathomable, uncontainable God is Love. And we are His people, His children, His sons and daughters who have been given an in heritance in this uncontainable, unfathomable Love.
Think about that! God, the Creator of all things, the Giver of all life has declared to us that His kingdom is ours to enjoy.
“Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.” 1 Timothy 6:17
Do you confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Then, you are rich. Are Jesus, The Father and the Holy Spirit alive in you? Then, you are rich. Do you have the Word of God available to you at all times? Then you are rich. God has given us, you and me, and all who are His children, sealed with His name, all things to enjoy.
“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32
This is what the prophets and the angels could not see and did not understand, and there are still far greater blessings yet to be revealed to us.
“For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.” John 5:20
“…even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us inChrist Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:5-9
“…which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets…” Ephesians 3:5
“…and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ…” Ephesians 3:9
Hear the Good News of things now and of things to come. By the power and revelation of the Holy Spirit in us we are given the knowledge of things hidden from the eyes and ears of those who do not yet know our God.
“But as it is written: ’Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.’ But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-10
But we who have been saved by grace through faith in the name of Jesus can speak boldly the love of God to the nations.
Let those refuse to sing
who never knew our God;
but children of the heavenly King,
but children of the heavenly King
may speak their joys abroad,
may speak their joys abroad.
