Lent Day 13 — A Prayer for Wisdom
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” James 1:5-8
“Father, we love You and we know from Your Word that Wisdom is the principle thing and that we are, therefore, instructed to get wisdom and with all our getting, to get understanding [Proverbs 4:7].
In this 13th day of Lent as we continue on our journey of prayer toward the great celebration of Resurrection Day and the realization of our refreshed, renewed and transformed lives, we ask You today to give us wisdom, the wisdom that comes from above, the wisdom that is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, andeasy to be petitioned for, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. [James 3:17]
We also know from Your Word that Jesus has become for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption. [1 Corinthians 1:30] And we have this treasure in us [earthen vessels] in our hearts with the Holy Spirit. [2 Corinthians 4:7].
So, Father we pray for wisdom; wisdom in our minds and in our hearts that we would know with confidence and certainty what is Your will, to speak that which is good for edifying that it will bring grace to those who hear us. Save us from idle words and words of vanity, arrogance and pride. Fill our mouths with the food that satisfies our souls, with words of encouragement and grace, of comfort and uplift, words that empower and strengthen us, and those around us.
Arrest our attention before we speak rashly and unkindly toor ofothers. Give us creative invention and knowledge to solve and resolve problems great and small. Train our minds and hearts to be discerning and thoughtful in our decisions. Reveal to us the hidden traps and “fine print” snares that would bind us, before we sign agreements and make contracts. [Hebrews 5:14]
Show us the right way to go in all things, the right pathways to follow and the right courses of action to take in all matters that pertain to our lives and those who would benefit or be disadvantaged by our decisions.
Father, please give us the wisdom to live as people of the Kingdom of God, as sons of God now in this time, that we will honor Your name before all. [Deuteronomy 28:10; 1 John 3:2; 1 Peter. 2:9]
Thank You, Lord God, for granting us this petition, for we believe it is done now even as we have prayed and agreed with Your Word. In the blessed and Holy name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth our Lord, our Savior and our King we pray. AMEN”
