Lent Day 16 - A Prayer For Daily Bread
“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman taketh but in vain.” Psalm 127:1
“Father God, Our Lord and King, You are God alone and there is no other. So, we are foolish if we even think that we can accomplish anything of heavenly value or earthly good apart from You. And all other accomplishments are mere exercises in futility. But for the momentary approval of men they soon give way to decay and perishing.
We strive, we strain we exhaust ourselves in the pursuit of so many transient things that have no lasting meaning or life-sustaining purpose. We strive for wealth, for fame, for the preeminent position over others, for dominance and control of our lives when the truth is, if You withdraw Your breath from us we all die.
Lord God, without Your glory surrounding us we are naked in this world of sin and incapable of keeping ourselves from the evil it demands of us. Praise You Father, we are not alone, because You have promised never to leave us or forsake us. Now You have declared us, Your people, to be in Your care. You are our Shepherd and we shall not want. You are our source of supply. From You alone comes all that we need for life. From Your hand comes our daily bread. So we pray this day for the will and the resolve to take our lives out of our care and put them solely and faithfully in Yours.
We cast all of our care on You, because You care for us. Keep us sensitive to hear Your voice and obey You, to follow Your lead and to receive from Your hand all that we need today and every day.
Thank you, Lord for giving us this day our daily bread, all that we need, all that will honor and glorify You. Thank You Father. In the all-loving and all-lovely name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth our Savior and Lord we pray. AMEN”
