Lent – Day 18 – A Prayer For Joy
“The king shall joy n thy strength, O Lord; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!” Psalm 21:1
“Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.” Psalm 35:27
“Our Father in Heaven, Your majesty and glory exceeds the splendor of all Your creation. And all You created You created for Your pleasure, and You gave us a share in Your glory here on earth. By the blood of Jesus Christ our Lord we have been welcomed into the family of God and have been made heirs together with Him of all that You have. Father, You created us to enjoy all the things You made and You called them good. You told us that it is Your good pleasure to give us the kingdom. Our joy is in You, in Your strength, and we need not only to be reminded, but also to embrace and participate in Your joy. Your WORD tells us that a merry heart does good like a medicine.
Forgive us Lord, where we have bought into the lie that worship or acknowledgement of You can only be realized in somber, sad, melancholic expressions. All that You created counters that notion. The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows Your handiwork. The entrance of Spring after a season of cold dark winter is but another testimony to the celebration of life being perpetuated season after season with beauty, vibrancy and joy.
Lord please give us a renewed sense of joy and laughter, and merry hearts to fill our days. Make us to be as little children with a sense of awe and wonder of Your great creation. Help us to sense and be engaged with Your heart for joy, for delight in all that makes for life and that more abundantly. Keep us sensitive to the beauty and splendor all around us and particularly of the glory of Your presence in people, in children, in friends and family, in all creation all around us. And let our joy be contagious and spread to all we meet.
Thank You, Father, Lord God, for Your Joy, which is our strength, and Your strength which is our Joy. AMEN”
