Lent – Day 19 — A Prayer For Grace And Mercy
“And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.” John 1:16
“Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.” Luke 10:36-37
Heavenly Father, You have given us more of Your love, mercy, and grace in our Lord Jesus Christ, than we could ever fathom or fully understand. That we are alive and granted the privilege of living day by day to glorify You is a measure of Your Love and favor that we can’t begin to comprehend.
We are truly blessed, exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think and WE ARE NOW, if we will take the time to realize it and acknowledge it, LIVING IN MORE GRACE AND MERCY THAN WE CAN MEASURE. Because Your grace and mercy is always poured out on us, with Your presence in our hearts, the Holy Spirit in us abiding forever and the WORDS of LIFE that You have given to us in Jesus Christ, and Your angels, ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for us who are heirs of salvation.
We pray today for the overflow of grace and mercy that we can extend to others who do not yet share in the immeasurable gifts so freely given to us. We need Your tender heart of compassion to see and give to others as You see and freely give to us despite our failures, missteps and sins. We need the measure and overflow of grace to love the unlovely and make room for the weak, to lift up the ones who have fallen under burdens we also could not bear.
We ask for the gift of patience and a deep abiding love to want to see even those who hate and oppose us changed and transformed by the same grace and mercy that caught our falling souls and rescued us from sin to live this new life in Jesus Christ.
Father, we ask that You would give us the grace and mercy through which we can be an extension to others of Your grace and mercy given to us through Jesus Christ our Lord, knowing that the same measure we meet with all it will be measured to us again, that we will never lack the necessary supply of grace, mercy and love to be Your hands and feet, Your consolation and encouragement, Your provision and peace extended to the world.
We are Your Church, the Body of Christ, Your ambassadors and agents, Your sons and daughters called to declare the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone we encounter. Let our countenances reflect your joy and peace. Empower our words, our hearts, and our hands to be a touch and an embrace from Your hands and arms to the broken, the blind, the unaware, the abandoned, the sick, the poor, the oppressed, the bound and imprisoned by sin and the evil works of men, the helpless, the innocent who are victims of their circumstances, the homeless, the lost, even the proud and arrogant who just don’t know You. Grant us the grace to freely give to others what has been so freely given to us, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer and for granting this petition in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior we pray. AMEN.”
