Lent – Day 22 — A Prayer for Endurance
“So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure…” 2 Thessalonians 1:4
“Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.” James 5:11
“For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.” 1 Peter 2:19
Father, God of our Lord Jesus Christ, there are times in our lives when we set out to accomplish a goal or complete a task and the way seems to grow longer and the task more difficult to achieve than when we began. At the start the end seemed near, but as the road continues to wind on, up hill, down hill, around this way and that we can grow weary and think we should just quit and turn back. But when we have passed the halfway mark we realize the only way is to forge ahead. And because we don’t always know where the mid –point of the journey lies, we could be closer to our destination than we think.
Lord, when we grow weary and the way seems long, our prayers seem halted in mid passage and answers seem to be uncertain or none at all, grant us the gift of endurance to run the race and finish the course. We desire to please You with our best effort, our most prized possessions, the best of our energies and resources and with our jobs well done. We want to reach the goal and attain the prize that we may glorify You.
But, the way sometimes is not always easy. And there are times when we just want to give up. Help us Lord, not to give in to the temptation of the enemy to be dismayed or distracted by the momentary weariness of our flesh or our minds. Help us to remember that we can doall things through Christ, Who strengthens us. Help us to take hold of Your promise that as our day so shall our strength be, and that when we wait on You our strength will be renewed so that we can mount up with wings as eagles, we can run and not be weary, we can walk and not faint.
Thank You, Lord that You will satisfy our mouths with good things so that our youth is renewed like the eagles. We need you today and every day Father. Without You we die. But in You we have our Lord Jesus Christ and in Him we have life and that more abundantly.
Thank You, Father for renewing and refreshing our bodies, our minds, and our souls. In the Blessed and Holy name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord we pray. AMEN”
