As He Is, So Are We In This World

“And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:14-19

Life is not as simple as some would suggest it should be, nor is it as complicated as others declare it to be. In nearly all ways that we can imagine it is one and the same time both simple enough for a child to understand it and profoundly unfathomable that neither men nor even angels can fully comprehend it. We are living in this world, but we who are born again from above are no longer of this world. We are new creations from another world, the world above. We are creations from Heaven by the blood of Jesus Christ and faith in His name for our salvation. What that means is we are spiritual beings living here on earth in the same bodies we possessed at birth, but now our reborn spirit is new and it is of the same spirit as Jesus. He is now our life. His Spirit dwelling in us with the Father makes us one with Him by virtue of the transforming work of the Holy Spirit that took place at the moment we made a confession of faith in Jesus Christ and received Him into our lives as Lord and Savior.

From that moment to now and throughout all eternity we are in Spirit one with God and with Jesus. As He is so are we in this world. God is Love, Jesus is Love and so we are Love. That is to say, our reborn spirit is Love. Love is our new nature. And that love is without fear because there is no fear in Love. The torment of fear has no claim on us. We dwell in God’s love. He loves us and because He loves us the Holy Spirit is working in us filling our hearts with that same love of God so that we will have the ability and the power to love our friends and our enemies as He loved us and gave Himself for us.

Let me conclude with this passage.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” Romans 5:1-9 NASB (1995)

Jesus and the Father are love, so we, in this world, are love. We are born again to love as Jesus loves, genuinely love, not just in words, but also in transformational deeds of love. It was God’s love for us demonstrated in His life, death, burial and resurrection that brought us to confession, forgiveness, repentance and transformation from darkness to light, from sin to salvation, from death to life, from our old nature to our new nature in godliness and true holiness.

This is the journey of Love that Jesus is walking with us now in this world through the preaching, teaching, proclamation and demonstration of the Gospel in all that we think, say and do toward others and in the manner of our lives publically and privately. As He is so are we in this world.

“For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].” Ephesians 2:10 AMP
