Lent – Day 33 – This Is Love - Giving

“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” 1 John 4:10

The days of Lent might easily be called the Days of Love, because everything thing about them finds its foundation in Love. Love for God, Love for Jesus and His sacrifice of His Life, Love for others, especially the poor and destitute, as well as love for ourselves. When we love God with all our heart, soul mind and strength and then our neighbors as ourselves, we demonstrate that we love the person God has bought with the precious price of His Son, including you and me.

We love also ourselves. He loves us so we can love ourselves and show that same love to our neighbors. We have great value, great purpose, great destiny because God loves us. What an awesome cycle of love begetting life betting love begetting life and so on.

I have thought that in the dictionary next to the word Love, instead of hearts and cupids, there should be a picture of the Cross of Christ. There is no more accurate picture of love than the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ for the sins of the world. God defines what love is more than anyone or anything else because Love is Who God is, manifested in what He does. Who God is and what He does are inseparably the same. Just as Jesus and the Father are One, God’s love and His acts are one.

Ok, you say. So, what does that mean for me today? Where are you today, physically, mentally, emotionally, relationally, financially, vocationally, creatively, psychologically or resourcefully? If you are anywhere in relation to these things other than a place of well being and peace in the love of Christ, then God’s love for you has something that will bring you to that place of well being and peace, and of hope and fulfillment.

To whatever degree you may be out of synch with the blessings of the Lord the love of God can bring you back into synch, into a place of provision and rest. The Spirit of the Lord is present with every believer. Now hear this! God does not dwell in the midst of strife. When He shows up, with Him comes also liberty and peace.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” 2 Corinthians 3:17

If you’re sick, if you’re broke financially, if you’re exhausted mentally and/or emotionally, you need the liberty of the Spirit of the Lord. God is Spirit and He is also Love.

“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” 1 John 4:16

It seems almost redundant to say we have known and believed, but it is not. To have known is to have been aware by experience of something, but to have believed is to have acted in faith because you have known it. What John is saying here is that we have known and therefore we have continued and will continue to believe and have confidence in the Love God has for us.

When you are absolutely, unswervingly confident in the love God has for you in every situation of life, then your faith, based on that love, makes anything that is possible for God also possible for you. Remember what God told Abraham concerning his 80 year old wife S

arah?

“Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.” Genesis 18:14

Or what Jesus taught the disciples?

“And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; andnothing shall be impossible unto you.” Matthew 17:20

Or what the angel said to the Virgin Mary?

“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37

Is it possible for God to heal you? Do you believe and have absolute confidence in that? Then you can be healed by the measure of faith you have in His love. The same is true for every believer, in every situation of life, because God is no respecter of persons. He does not account some people more privileged to access His love than any other people.

“Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons…” Acts 10:34

There are no elites or commoners in the Kingdom of Heaven among the children of God. In Christ we are all one.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28

God’s love is extend to you and me in the same measure it was extended to the Apostles, to Peter, to James and John, to Paul and Silas, to those who wrought miracles and who went about doing good, healing the sick, raising the dead and proclaiming the gospel to the nations.

Now, it is clear we are not all called to be apostles or to do great works of miracles, but we are all called to be available to God for whatever the need and to trust Him in our individual situations to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think because He loves us. And His love is a powerful force for transformational change in our lives.

But you might say, but I have believed God with all my heart and have prayed for someone to be healed and it didn’t happen. Don’t let that dissuade you from continuing to pray. There were times when the disciples also could not heal or deliver someone from oppression of the enemy. But God can do all things, if we will just trust Him and believe His promises.

Even Jesus was hindered from healing some because of their unbelief. All healing comes from God in one form or another. And it is ultimately His call when and how He chooses to heal us. That God loves us is our assurance that He has only our good at heart and all that He does is for our benefit. All that He asks of us is for our benefit. All that He has created for His pleasure is also for our benefit. His love expressed in the suffering, death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ has guaranteed that God is not withholding any good thing from us.

When it comes to physical healing we can only see through the eyes of our limited human perspective. But the Holy Spirit working in us can reveal a greater and more complete healing for each of us by the will of God through faith in the name of Jesus. Ultimately we will all be healed and made fully transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ. While we live we take the faith we have and we minister that measure, motivated by God’s love, to all whom He leads us to show that love. We bless because we are blessed. This is the promise of the covenant of God, “I will bless you and you will be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2; Genesis 17:1-9; Deuteronomy 28:1-14)

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32

Love gives, Love sacrifices, Love lays down His life for those He loves. Love never fails. Think about it! You are loved. God loves you, yesterday, today and forever!

“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32

Be a blessing and expect a greater blessing. That is God’s promise and He never fails to do what He said He will do.
